June Hatch A Long

Got a picture of each of the babies that are out and of the eggs that are working on getting out now. A little worried about the last picture it's an egg that was in a single cup since I had 13 eggs and the chicks tipped it over when they were running around. Hopefully that doesn't make it have issues hatching.

I think it will be ok! When I hatch chicks they kick the other eggs all over the place.

I would just keep an eye. If it’s been adjusting to hatch upright it may now be on the bottom of that egg.

I have no idea if it does, I’ve just heard it’s an integral part of the Cornish four way hybrid. What are selecting for in this round of chicks?

I am aiming for 2 different patterns, the Silver Duckwing (silver grey dorking) and a Columbian Pattern (Light Dorking's). I want to make a hardier version of dorkings because so few survive to adulthood or even processing age. Once they reach sexual maturity they seem to be hardy but before that well less than half survive. The breed is old and very inbred. Although I am not the best person for breeding to the SOP I want to keep Dorking's for meat so I came up with the plan to use Red Rangers to draw out the Columbian Pattern and to improve the Silver Duckwing (silver grey) pattern. If its not exactly like a dorking then oh well, it will likely improve the meat qualities since I used a meat bird. If it turns out there is a dwarf gene then its going to burn me pretty hard down the road. But with improved survival rate I will be happy to deal with the dwarf birds coming out from time to time... they will eat less anyways, and maybe there is something I can do with the dwarfs... make Bantam Dorkings?

6 total hatched and presently photo bombing the camera. 2 more pipped. I think if those two hatch out I'll try to candle the other 5 eggs and see what's going on and clean up the hatcher a bit and move the babies to the brooder lol.

Moved the fuzzy terrorists to the other incubator so that they could get some food and water since they were mostly dry and the other two eggs that were pipped aren't pipped really enough to have any issues with the humidity dropping a few degrees. It stayed right around 68 since it was high from everyone hatching out so no big issue. I added more water after taking them out and now it's showing 63 afterwards. Going to wait until it's dark enough to see inside the eggs then I will take them out one at a time and check for internal pips and add safety holes if needed.

Hatch going great so far!!! Where are these orpingtons from? Those really pale speckled are orpingtons too??? I imagine with a blue egger they would make some TO DIE FOR blue speckled eggs....
