If what I've read about brown eggs is true, think of the brown as being spray painted and it's not the actual shell color. Ie: the egg starts off white and gets a coat of paint somewhere along the way in the paint department.H'm, interesting! Apparently the blue egg gene is dominant, which with my limited knowledge I found a bit surprising.
So green eggs are blue eggs with a coating of brown paint on them.
Blue may be the dominant gene but I'm not sure if people have figured out the genome for the brown "spray paint" of brown egg layers. Again, from what I have seen here.
It certainly explains why the brown on brown eggs can wipe off on a damp towel but blue does not.
