June Hatch-A-Long

June hatch is complete. It was my first hatch ever! I learned a lot and have a bunch of notes for next time. ( that’s right, it is addicting, there will be a next time) I appreciate all of the support, guidance, and feedback from the group!
Out of 12 eggs placed under broody...

I have 4 beautiful new babies. My special chick did have other defects. That was a sore on it’s back. It also had an eye issue. The chick did not survive the day. I had 2 late Quitters still in with hen. At some point today she opened those eggs and the chicks were quite under developed. Once I cleaned out box she walked her babies out and joined the flock. She is doing great With her first brood. lol So much for White Rocks not going broody. Here is Popeye with her BBS Ameraucana, Lavender Copper Marans, Blue Copper Marans, and Splash Copper Marans babies.

How bad do they look? 1 & 2 are the worst air cells. 2 goes halfway down one side and 1 not as bad. As far as jiggling there is some, but not terribly bad. Mostly on one side or maybe just 1/3 of an edge.

11 is just a hot mess. Decent air cell but cracks and all kinds of questionable spots, ignore it.

I am sorry :( They did that to my Legbars in their stop over in Texas :rant At least all of yours have attached and not wondering aircells.
True, and thank you.
But I'm totally stumped as to putting them in my horizontal NR360 or putting them in cartons upright and hand turning. A couple look pretty good....but I really want more than 2 to hatch if at all possible.

In my very limited experience I don’t think they look as bad as you think! saddled eggs often hatch as far as I know. My last month Silkie batch were 14 out of 15 that went to lock down hatched, several of them were very saddled in the beginning and then about a week into incubation most of them looked much better. One of them continued to look saddled and that was very similar to your number two egg. I ended up just having that one hatch upright without any problems at all.
I think jiggly air cells are much worse than saddled air cells in my experience. I have one Orpington egg that has a partial jiggly air cell still going into week three and it has sat upright the whole time but the chick still looks great!
I hope this helps, hopefully more experienced forum members will respond as I’m sure they will! Good luck with your eggs!

They look a lot better than some I've received and had decent hatches from. Don't despair. They almost certainly will not all hatch (they hardly ever do), but I bet you'll come out all right.

I have had quite a few with air cells like that that have hatched just fine. The worst ones I did incubate upright and hatched on their side, the others I put in my horizontal turner (including all jiggly cells) and they did fine. Only a few of the worst ones had any signs of a saddled air cell at hatch.
