June Hatch-A-Long

Pics
So, my DD has a business selling guinea keets and hatching eggs. She tried to post the guineas hatching eggs on FB marketplace and Craigslist, but the FB ad was rejected so she just went with Craigslist.... crickets. I got frustrated watching the guinea eggs pile up in the fridge and managed to word differently and get the guinea hatching eggs accepted onto FB marketplace at$12/dozen. Y’all, I’ve had so many requests from that ad! Just cleaned out my fridge for a woman willing to take a chance hatching refrigerated eggs! More requests for as many as we can sell! I’m gobsmacked!!!:thObviously we need to raise the price - $20/dozen?
When working with craigslist it’s all about how you sell the product. She has to be very detailed and pretty much give a little background on the guineas. The more pictures you have the better especially of the ones that would’ve laid the eggs. Pictures of the eggs and pictures of cute keets

Did I mention that I also ordered some more hatching eggs? I finally found some Buff English Orpington eggs for my friend and the breeder tossed in a couple Isabelle Leghorn eggs for me too. Just to really stick it to me USPS delayed that package and it's supposed to be here Monday. :th This is going to be a very expensive and likely poor hatching month.

Darn you USPS!!!

I need an emoji that's dramatically throwing a towel because I'm officially THROWING IN THE TOWEL!

I was thrilled when I got another phone call from my post office just moments after I posted about my upset. They received another package for me that arrived express (I don't even know why, both packages came from Virginia and were shipped regular Priority). I excitedly went all the way back to the post office to get the package and again they were packaged really well in foam. There are lots of saddled and detached air cells and a couple scrambled but nothing as bad as terribly detached as the goose eggs...instead while inspecting them I find an egg that I'm fairly confident was cracked before packaging with the air cell in the pointed end where the crack is and 2 eggs that appear to have had development in them that were scrambled. :th

I'm never upset with the breeders for what the post office is clearly responsible for but I'm really bummed to see that there were some definite oversights from the breeder as well. :(

This, this is why I buy 99% of my hatching eggs locally. It's just not worth the heartache.

Yeah, hard to figure out the two platforms as FB flags animal pics on ads... At any rate, she’s taken down the Craigslist ad for now. We have guinea eggs hatching in a few weeks that she plans to sell keets from and will try CL again then with better pics !

I still have eggs from my friend sitting next to the bators. They were so dirty 🤢 I didn’t want to put them in with my clean eggs. I might wait till next week because I have nothing to lose.

Yeah, waterfowl are dirty little buggers. lol, I really really struggled with setting them dirty the first time I got goose eggs, haha! I just incubate them in their own little incubator away from all of my clean babies now.

Yes! Definitely raise the price to $20!

They are chicken eggs not waterfowl 😂

I’ve only hatched ducks once, and they were presented to me very dirty. I was incubating them with clean guinea and chicken eggs, so I decided to try a little experiment: 1/3 duck eggs set dirty, 1/3 soaked on hydrogen peroxide solution first, and 1/3 soaked in a bleach solution. Almost every egg hatched, so didn’t prove much other than that dirty eggs seemed to do ok and disinfection didn’t seem to hurt the eggs!

Well that's still great info to have! I have so far just left them dirty because that's what everyone told me to do. It has worked well for me so far! I had a 100% hatch with my funky goose eggs last time. lol
