June Hatch-A-Long

Pics
Hatch almost complete!!! One blue egg left. No pips, just candled it and it has internally pipped and is alive. If he makes it out, that will be a 100% hatch rate! This is only my second ever hatch, and my first hatch rate was 20%....due to crappy cheap incubator and low temps. Amazing what a better incubator and steady temps can do...and I actually enjoyed hand turning them instead of using an automatic turner. End of day 21 today, hope my blue egg dude makes it out! These chicks came from silkie, Polish or BR roo’s and an assortment of hens. I ended up with two pure silkies....one black (which we are giving to a friend) and one grey which I’m SUPER excited about and is the cutest little thing ever. Will post pics in a bit!

I am in a good place chicken wise at the moment. I have hatched a bunch, I have more another week out + but I think I am mellowing, I don't have eggs in the mail, all my chicks are enjoying just being chickens, and they are also friendly. My big hens are laying. I am planning for next year already. But good for now.

Where is everyone else, content yet, anxious, still wanting?
I think I will be content if/when I get those elusive self blue (lavender) ameraucanas. Eggs should be here today or tomorrow. :fl

Day 12 today. I set 22 but 2 were infertile.
So far the other 20 appear to be active and growing and I'm trying NOT to candle every stinkin' day.

I don't do them all but will grab a few and take a peek just because it makes me smile. Need to get it in gear and start amassing brooder gear and making sure everything works. Still trying to decide if I want to do the big livestock tank on the front porch since it's warm, or do the smaller brooder in he house then kick them out early because, again, it's warm outside.
Choices, choices.

Do the stock tank outside. Chicks mess up a room quick with dust. Better to be outside

This I know too well.
I'm concerned about outside because there are so many cats and wildlife roaming around. Something had the nerve to take a dump on my porch 2 nights ago....not sure it if was cats (which fight up here sometimes) or an opossum, a groundhog, or something... we have it all here.
I can make a good lid, but I worry about the heat source. Boy do I miss my other barn and my garage!

Wet bulb (as far as I understand it) seems to be a way of measuring temp and humidity as one measurement. I think the thermometer probe (the mercury bulb) is encased in wet material--so you would be aiming for a "wet bulb" temp, which will be a lower target number than the dry reading would be.

Did I hit anywhere in the vicinity of the target, @R2elk ? @007Sean ?
