June Hatch-A-Long

Pics
Did a day 8 candle last night and was able to see some very active little blobs in there. I meant to get a brighter flashlight while I was out at the store yesterday, so I can actually SEE into the darker eggs, but I spaced it completely! Oops.

Welp, just like that, another broody. I was waiting for her, she went broody summer last year, I couldn't imagine her not with all these others running around. She has been kicking my broody off her nest to lay in her spot, yet today, she is sitting on three eggs in the box and low rumbling when i pet her. She never does that when she is just laying. And she has that super dazed look.

I've never had two at once. Can I just split these eggs up and give them each half? Will the chicks know their mom if they don't want to brood together?

Fun! When we had two broodies last year, we separated them due to horror stories about attacking the other’s chicks or stealing them. Seems to work for some people though!

Well, I just ordered my first ever shipped eggs (coming from 2 1/2 hrs away, so not far to travel but let’s hope they’re handled gently!).....so now I’ve got 2 June hatches. First one is due June 4, shipped eggs will be arriving June 9 or 10, so will hatch near the very end. I’m hopeful of them because I am getting 6 lavender Orpington eggs and 6 pure Ameraucana eggs ...... my two favourite breeds that I hope to get a rooster and a few hens out of to play with mixing next spring!

Ordered Call Duck eggs today! I may be asking lots of questions as I have never incubated duck eggs before.

Call ducks are tons of fun, but they are more nerve wracking than any other duck to hatch. Just be ready to assist as most calls from good stock need help out of the shell.

So my lavender Americanna got here today. I have them resting as they got shipped upside down. I wish the eggs had been a little more blue but I am happy they are here.

My Death Layers just shipped today. I am so torn between waiting for them to get here and set them all together or go ahead and get my Americanna started tomorrow.

These are my long awaited (took a week to get) lavender Americanna eggs.

Now question time for me as I have only incubated chickens once and they were not shipped eggs. I have two solid set air cells, two saddled and 3 that might be detached at 9 hours after setting in the carton.

so here are my questions first how badly will a saddled air cell effect a chicken eggs hatching or developing? I have delt with many in ducks but some of the most severe ones I usually have to assist in some way. Second are they similar to duck eggs if I let them rest longer the air cell might become more stable? Right now I am not feeling so hot with 3 out of the 7 being dead out of the box so to speak. I have never had a detached air cell develop in two years of incubation.

I had a detached air cell just hatch recently. It was one of my pekin ducks and the air cell settled around day 13.
