I think that’s about all you can do. Ours was trying to sit on my bantam who is broody the bantam wanted to kill her oh the joys of farming

Ours hisses like a snake and tries to bite. She chases the chickens too. She’s just Coco the loco and we love her for it.

How long would you wait before you candled eggs that had a chill exposure for nearly 7 hours? I know several eggs ended up degraded and had no veins. The others I couldn’t say yes or no on at the time.

I have had more broody ducks so far this year than I have had broody chickens. My Saxony went broody first and then my Silver Appleyard....they were sharing a box and all the ducks were laying eggs in it (I was kicking them off to collect as our drake thinks he is a rooster and is more interested in the chickens than the female ducks, so I know the eggs are not fertile). They were both pretty hissy and full of attitude in the run after they gave up. Then my Blue Swedish went broody and still is. She is pretty jumpy and flies off the nest as soon as she sees me. She is sitting on only a fake egg as my ducks have decided to quit laying and fight all the time. I also think they are molting. Then my RIR hen went broody. She is super sweet and doesn't mind me messing with her. Not your typical broody hen for sure!

I currently have a Black East Indie female that has been spending a lot of time on her nest for the last three days. Well today I am not aware of her leaving the nest at all.

When I checked in with her to remove the fake egg, she went all dragon duck on me and bit me when I swiped the fake egg.

Right now she has 5 eggs.

Dragon duck!!! I think one of our ducks is going broody. Bummer! I didn’t know a duck could bite until she went broody last year...

I just candled my eggs I could tell or had questions on if something was growing in them still. Based on what I saw it looks like I lost one lavender Americanna and Death Layer. I have even did the nail trick. The two I thought were gone had no movement from the nail. I am going to wait until Sunday to make the call.

It's been an up and down week for me, upside is my welsummer due date is three days away! Downside is my wife has put her foot down and said no more chickens until you move some on .

Just a quick question I didn't think need it's own thread; is this egg fertile? Pretty sure that's what I'm looking at, just not sure.

Too much of a glare, but it doesn’t look fertile to me. There isn’t a definite bullseye. I would wait several weeks before trying again.

Question...
Last night was day 6 1/2 and the brown eggs looked just like the day 6 pics. Well, aside from the little guys moving all over the place.
The blue eggs, which started off looking just like the brown eggs until about day 4 or 5. Then they started looking much darker inside.
I thought, oh no, they died. But if I gently roll the egg around I do get movement and can see an eye. Last night I checked a blue egg and it now looks like a day 12 egg. Dark but with veins, and when I rolled it so the air cell is down, junior was moving all over the place. I left it for a moment, just in case the movement was the settling, and sure enough Junior started playing soccer again.

So, is there something about blue eggs and the pigment that makes them look more mature or further along the development line? I realize there could be minor differences among eggs, especially broody eggs, but all the eggs were candled before setting and all looked clear when I set them.
Or am I just crazy and depending on the position of juniorette, any egg could look that dark on day 6?
