June Hatch-A-Long

“Toasting” my sponges to bring the humidity down, getting ready for the Marans eggs. I know some of you thought I was crazy last time (you may be right...) but it really worked! So not messing with a good thing! The only thing that I tried that actually worked. Able to keep the humidity between 20 and 30% this way, otherwise even with dry incubation, humidity runs anywhere between 38 and 60% here.🤪😊❤️

6/11 Silkie eggs have hatched so far! Looks like we're getting a good variety for colors too. Looks to me like a blue, a couple of partridge, some paint or splash, and a white or buff one. I'm not too good at identifying them, so I'll have to wait until they're grown to see if my guesses are right or not. I'll try to post pictures later, but for now, I really need a nap.

The second chick to hatch involved a lot of blood, at first we weren't sure the little one would make it but so far is doing alright. I figured the best thing I could possibly do is just leave them be in the incubator. I think it was the right call as they're starting to fluff out and are just as active as the less messy hatchers.

Fingers crossed most of these chicks are hens. I'm keeping the blue one regardless though, they're already just so pretty.

Broody hatch under way! We have several black copper marans and olive eggers hatched. One had a little unabsorbed yolk, which Naruto pecked at and made bleed, so that one is cleaned up and resting in the narrow edge of our incubator that is full of day 23 guinea eggs and the one crushed olive egger egg. The crushed egg is internally pipped!

Broody’s baby hatched today! I found it while collecting eggs. We’re pretty sure it’s from a Wyandotte egg fertilized by our blue ameraucana roo. It has slight fluffy face and is all black.
