June Hatch-A-Long

Chicks only live 3 days inside my house and that’s it. Then they go to the brooder in the shed with everyone else and no heat... GASP I know... They don’t need heat when my shed is 85+ and they have siblings to warm them up.

I’ve lost 0 chicks from my own hatching. I’ve lost about 8 from TSC. That tells me a lot about these hatcheries that’s why I don’t buy chicks from anyone anymore unless TSC cuts me a deal I can’t refuse.

I usually keep them in the house for 2-3 weeks but after that I do that same. I put them outside with no additional heat source in the summer at that point. I just like to make sure they get past their delicate stage. Plus they're really easy to keep clean early. Once they start tearing up the brooder or trying to jump out that their sign to me that they're ready for the great outdoors. lol

My quail are already in the aviary at 2 weeks. They’re mental little things!

Can't wait to see what they look like. What color are the parents? I am hoping to breed the blue birchen marans with blue ameraucanas.

They should be 100% blue plumage offspring. Dark egg genetics Splash Marans rooster over true Black Ameraucanas (not Easter Eggers that are labeled as Americanas, lol).

Post photos for sure. I love blue chickens! So much confusion around ameraucanas. Yes mine are true. Really wanted to be sure of the blue eggs!:love
