June Hatch-A-Long

My summer 2020 basket is better than my 2019 basket and I still have two BCMs from the darkest eggs I’ve had to come on line soon! Yay!!!!

Purdy basket!!
I miss my Welsummers and Marans.

Speaking of eggs...
If I cross an Ameraucana hen(Hoover Hatchery) who lays brighter blue eggs with an Australorp Roo, what might be my percentages of the possible egg color outcomes?

I have no history on the Ameraucana but she and her sisters were/are grey under feathers with rusty or red tips on the neck and some of the body.
If the hen has 2 blue genes I should get some sort of olive egg, right? But if she has one white and one blue, I could get brown or green eggs?

Almost time to hit the hay and still no hatches from the remaining three pipped eggs (expected as they only pipped today). Two of the eggs are lighter and one is darker and I decided I have to know which one that is - so into the empty mesh onion seed bag s/he goes :) Now to get a good night's sleep!

Just candled my Orpington eggs it’s day 4 1/2 technically. They’ve just been sitting and chilling in the incubator without any disturbances. Candled a few of the eggs and I found this one with a red ring near the top it only goes about halfway around the egg. Is this a blood ring ? Should I let it sit for a few more days or is it really a goner at this point? Haven’t come across an egg that looks like this yet in my limited experience.🤔

It's probably a blood ring but anytime I'm unsure I put a question mark on the egg and check back in a few days.

Here is my first chip, EF mix egg local. 2 check marks meant it was doing well during incubation, and the purple dot is where egg started to develop day 5.

below is my dog Duke, just for fun. He was sitting in his chair. On the wall behind him is a painting someone made of him sitting in his chair.
