June Hatch-A-Long

Not a baby chick, but my 7 week old duckling, on the right. Had vent sexed it as a day old and couldn’t find any boy bits, but lo and behold she’s a he. Sounds like a chain smoker. xD very obvious duck junk now 🙄 haha. Weirdest part about this one is that it was making quacking sounds at 4 weeks. 🤷🏼‍♀️ Every single duckling I’ve hatched so far has been male. 🤦‍♀️

I’ll try to get pics of the d’uccles later. The one is ugly cute and has oddly small eyes. It seems to have normal vision though. 🤷🏼‍♀️

You need practice on your duck vent sexing 🤭

Lol, seems like it. 😝 I don’t usually have any issues with it, I mean, a phallus is a phallus right? Usually they kind of just spring up and there they are. but even at this age he’s got it tucked so far up in there it was insane. 🤣 and the quacking was bizarre. I usually double check them at a week or 2 when I don’t see anything as a day old, but I didn’t on this one. Guess I should’ve. Good thing I actually wanted a drake from these hatches. 😝

Update on the hatching thus far-all viable eggs have pips. 6 total hatched so far: 3 Andalusians (2 blue, 1 black), 2 Partridge Rocks, 1 Olive Egger all Meyer hatching eggs so far.

On a related note. Received some hatching eggs yesterday, roughly handled from USPS. One completely crushed, most of all of them have detached air cells. I am reading that incubating vertically is the way to go when this happens. I have had them resting vertically since yesterday afternoon. Any other hints to increase chances of hatching? Thanks all in advance for any help.
