June Hatch-A-Long

I remember that some people think they can count to three, but I think you’ll be fine. (As in they can tell what one is, what two is, and three or more is all the same.
I thought I sounded dumb saying that... I am actually shocked. Today the broodies came out for a few to eat and my black Cochin did a good job protecting nothing because she doesn’t have chicks yet. She has two eggs so I’ll slip the chicks with her then I’ll take the 2 eggs and put them in the bator.

The Hatch Has Begun! The chickens are right on time at day 21. First one hatched yesterday. Unfortunately it had a problem, the yolk wasn't fully absorbed. It absorbed the content during the night, but left a "pouch" on the outside. Think I'll leave it until it falls off on its own.

5 chicks so far (taken out 2), and one duckling!

Love seeing all of your fluffies hatching!! 😍

Well, we lost the last BO, and we are down to 3 speckled Sussex.

Ive learned a couple of lessons: 1) don't get your hopes up for all the eggs that start to develop to make it full term 2)just leave the eggs be for the first week.

I think I was so nervous and excitedthat I couldn’t help but have a peek at the eggs every day. now that I’ve done that and lost so many eggs, I’m afraid that I killed some of them by opening the incubator too often. 😔

so I’m getting 6 more BO shipped from the guy on eBay for free and hoping for at least a couple of those to hatch, and I’m also going to pick up a couple more Brahma eggs from the guy I got them from locally because they are obviously my healthiest happiest eggs in there. (Plus...how cute are brahma’s?! )

I’ll put them all in Wednesday/Thursday and do a staggered hatch, as I’ve got a really large incubator that I can divide up so I think it’ll work fine. 😊

If it helps you any, this was my first batch and I could not keep my hands off of them and candled at least some of the eggs every day. Well, I think on day 16 or 17 I didn't touch anyone, but only because I knew I wasn't far from another candling day.
I was very quick and very careful with them, but I still did it too much and mine hatched out fine. It could be it was just a bad set of eggs. :)
Good luck with the next BO eggs and now you get to join the next Hatch-a-long.

Went into the hatching room thinking the marans hatched because I could here a new chick chirping... NOPE! My other bator had a chick hatched and I hadn’t even shut off the turner. The ones I put in the 31st are hatching too 😱 Maybe they were developing in the incubator room while they were sitting waiting to be put in... That room can get about 85+ sometimes if it’s hot enough because I keep the door shut so my cat won’t eat my chicks in the storage bins.
