Yeah, just checked what I could find for my area and they are 50 plus dollars a dozen pickup.

Thats insane! This person I buy from has great breeding stock and they’re truly super friendly. I’ve never had issues with their eggs. I would literally If I bought eggs for that much. The things I could buy with $50...

Anybody out there have experience with Cuckoo Marans and why they are usually cheaper then the Black Copper variety?
I am thinking of getting some chicks...

BCMs from hatcheries are riding a wave of “rare” popularity. They lay okay colors but not dark at all. Cuckoo marans are not that far off from what the hatchery BcM lays anyway. Go for it.

cuckoo marans from a breeder can lay dark. I don’t think cuckoo is APA accepted yet, so there aren’t as many breeders working on them for type and egg color. If you’re on FB, “the marans club” has a group that’s one of the most engaged groups with top-of-their-game breeders posting and commenting frequently.

Bev Davis herself has a large marans group on FB, but the marans club one seems to have more information.

I would be so happy if I could get a dz eggs for something I would consider reasonable, locally. Most purebred chicken hatching eggs start at 35/dz. Barnyard mixes start at 10/dz

There’s also a buff silkie, BCMs, and a Delaware Giant in these pics. The stunning ones are the PDL

How come everyone says BCM are expensive? Look local if possible anyone who is buying them... I paid $12 for a dozen BCM eggs from a great breeding line.

I paid $8 EACH egg for mine. Breeder is the only one who has them locally. Super nice people though!

I stay away from shipped eggs usually because I bought some on eBay and only 4/25 hatched... I did get other shipped eggs from Myshire and they did great 25/25 hatched, the 5 extras weren’t developing.

I try not to buy shipped if I can help it, but I understand some people can’t get local eggs.

I couldn't find anyone anywhere close to me that have any - everyone here has the farm store basic breeds. I should be able to get a good price for chicks next year though where they are so rare around this area.
