June Hatch-A-Long

EDIT: Meyer's got back to me. It was for the vita-pack! Whew! Sorry to post something that was a bit panicked and needn't have been. So happy!

Guys I am sick to my stomach I have been waiting to here that my ducks had shipped and I have checked everyday multiple times a day to see if they had on Meyers. All I have seen for the past day or so is in process. I have rested easy because no one, not the post office, not Meyers has called or texted notice that the birds had been sent. Their site even says in process. However, not 10 minutes ago I saw a tracking number affixed to the order and clicked. It said that whatever they had sent had been delivered Saturday! Saturday! I was not anticipating delivery of those ducks until tomorrow at the earliest. What are the chances that tracking number is for something else? Like the vitamin supplements I ordered?
It must be the supplement. The post office calls me immediately--like 0300--and I hop in the car and head into town to get them.

Yeah, just checked what I could find for my area and they are 50 plus dollars a dozen pickup.
I remember a case last year where a guy (in my non-american country) wanted 50$ for ONE ayam cemani egg. Yup, prize per egg! (rare breed in a small country without commercial hatcheries)

Someone posted the ad with a raging comment on a chicken facebook group and the prize quickly reduced to 10$. I mean, it's a free world and you can put whatever prize you want on something you sell, but that's insane...

That price is crazy. I only know of one ayam cemani breeder in my state and she even sells for $10 an egg.

A local breeder here sells them for $3 per egg. I’m not interested in the breed so I haven’t bought any. I have a thing against all black chickens or black chickens period because I want colorful chicks not all black. Black ALWAYS is dominant and black chicks don’t sell as good plus I like eye candy. Only black chicken I have now is my black Cochin, but she had green sheen so she is excused from my dislike 😂 My dislike started when I was crossing breeds with my BJG. Every chick was black and had zero wow effect.

I have the same dislike for white (and white/black splash). They're so boring! They don't sell well either, since "everyone" has at least one white egg layer already. I'm starting to loose interest in my buff orpington mixes too, as they all turn out the same...

What I love most about hatching is the variety, patterns and surprises, which is why I only breed mixes now. :love

Get a Deathlayer! Their chicks come out amazing when you cross them. My last cross Polish Deathlayers are all different colors not one is identical. I’m loving crossing my Deathlayer with all my different purebreds. I haven’t sold any of the chicks yet or put them for sale. I will see how well they sell soon enough.

I am with you on the mixes! They come out and surprise me every tome! I also feel like they are bigger and healthier too! Here are some I just hatched out last weekend!

I think the last one might be an all white Easter egger which I have never seen. Look at those puffy cheeks! :love :thumbsup

Some Bielefelder chicks just became available. Should I get some? .....
YES!!

Is black always dominant?
I got 7 silver (grey, blue...whatever they are called when still fuzzy) chicks from my hatch. A Black Australorp is the daddy of all the chicks and the moms of the silvers are 1 Americana and 3 different Sapphire Gems.
Does that mean my roo only has one black gene?

He's inky black with the green sheen and in certain light a purple sheen.
