@jolenesdad I actually got a new broody to take the chicks without killing them and so far she is being a kind mom The bantam brahma has a chick as well and she is behaving as well. My white cochin (chicken little) has no chicks yet. Jerky the jerkface Turkey decided he was going to attack her while I held her to check her eggs. I was trying to get all the duck eggs in one nesting box. That little turkey is most likely going to become Thanksgiving if it doesn't knock it off! The other day he tried to pick on my Bantam Brahma (not the broody one) and she flipped a lid, jumped right on his back and would not let go of his neck I laughed for a bit before I helped him.

Even after all my drama I still prefer broodies. I’m going to make it an integral part of the coop spaces at the new place.

Also GOOSE SHIPPING IS SIXTY DOLLARS WHAT WAS I THINKING.

I may raise them to 6-8 weeks and sell for 40-50 bucks a piece? I think they’d go for that all feathered out.

I plan on getting a barn when we move and sectioning off part of it just for broodies and their chicks.

The current place FINALLY is going on the market in two weeks. I mean this has been foreverrrrr but everything happens when it’s supposed to I suppose.

no we are waiting to sell our place first, and then we will move into my mothers barn for a couple of months. It’s really very nice, but it’s still a horse barn and it’s still temporary, so it will still definitely be crazy....but we can keep all of our animals with us and not have to be over committed and wait for our current place to sell before buying something else.

we are currently under heavy, heavy property and deed restrictions so we are going to go to an unrestricted property, downsize the house and upsize the acreage probably.

We are doing a smaller house and lots of acreage so we can increase our farm to more than just birds

I'm 54 and wonder the same thing as I carry feed everywhere twice a day, uphill, both ways...Sometimes in the snow

I checked on my broody when I got home from work, and she was off the nest but next to it. It is pretty hot here. It was 90’s today. Is she just keeping eggs from getting too hot? She’s been good and this hasn’t been an issue. She’s been getting up for about 15 minutes at noon everyday and comes right back, but today got off again and just sat next to box. What the....? We are day 16.
