June Hatch-A-Long

Just hatched yesterday- about 10 hours apart! They are awfully cute and we are dying to know the sex!

We don’t have a rooster but one of our hens (Mary Kate- the millefleur d’uccle) has been chronically broody this spring. These eggs were acquired from a neighbor and they are supposedly welsummer/buff orp mixes. She started sitting on them May 30th so we were surprised for our early arrivals! She’s still sitting on one last egg which is a welsummer/Hamburg mix... that one should auto-sex if it hatches. Fingers crossed!View attachment 2204161View attachment 2204163View attachment 2204164View attachment 2204165View attachment 2204167
I have a mille fleur as well. She is a party girl, not ready to settle down. Your pics are great!

Went to bed with 4 chicks hatched last night - the only one left was the one that pipped on the back side of the egg. Woke up to that one having chipped the shell into a circle about the size of a quarter and the inner membrane starting to dry onto the chick. I assisted it and it is alive, but may need teacup therapy as it's legs are a bit weak. So the only egg left is the one I think is a really late quitter....so going to count this hatch as a 5 out of 5, 100% hatch!

My last June hatch (1 Welsummer egg and 3 frizzle tolbunt polish/buff orpington cross eggs) go into lockdown next Wednesday.

Fowl pox has run through the flock fully I think! No issues. :)

The African Geese are doing well! The Sebastopol tolerate them outside when I let them come have some grass. I’m thinking of keeping them.

Some cute photos of the last two days... also some of my latest marans layers

the Sebastopols are literal shadows still. I’m going to be so sad when they want independence. They walked with me today to let out the chickens and met them face to face and it was priceless. They’re still in a brooder setup so I can keep them near the Africans so they can all go to the big pen together. We “walk” them about half a mile a day. Lol.
