June Hatch-A-Long

I’m not happy... the BCM hatch has been almost completely culled. I’ve found a few dead and I just culled 5. They were acting lethargic. My older chicks don’t seemed phased so I’m not sure what it is.

I’ve also lost a few bantam brahma chicks and 2 sultans.

Ive never lost this many ever. They have tons of food and water plus a fan and the heat plate. Lots of room as well.

I just put nutritional yeast and garlic in their feed. I also added acv to their waterers. I may be doing a round of colloidal silver as well.

I have antibiotics and other meds, but I try to use those as a last resort due to all my allergies and touching them can cause anaphylaxis so I have to wait for family to get home to help. I don’t have an epi pen available so I need to be wise.

Hope I am not overstepping, but you need to have an epipen in reach at all times!

I just put that in so it wouldn’t be that. They have stuff in their waterer like electrolytes and vitamins. I always add those.

They have a fan and they’re in a well ventilated shed so I doubt heat.

I get that you’d try other things first, but I did try those others first and it’s not helping so I went to the next defense before I drown them in antibiotics like everyone else does then they get immune to it then they wonder why all their older chickens are dying and can’t be helped.

I think you’re trying everything in the right way. I suggest poultry cell that TSC usually has in stock because it’s the most complete vitamin/electrolyte mix. It has quite a bit more of a vitamin profile Than Nutri drench or polyvisol and it also includes minerals and amino acids. I have just recently switched to it for anything I used Nutri drench or poly vi sol for before

And oh yeah, no, I wasn’t trying to judge or anything like that! I’m sorry. it’s totally understandable why you did what you did! Especially since so many were sick and/or dead!

I just know usually when I have one or two a little slower or whatever sometimes vitamins help (though not always) but it seems in this case it was something else besides that. Especially since you were already doing the vitamins, which I didn’t realize. I’m sure it’s probably something you couldn’t have prevented.

This is good to know!!! I might have to get some of that stuff!! I have Nutri Drench right now but this sounds way better!! Nutri Drench is a lot of sugar anyway I think from what I heard.

I know I’ll call my dr. Last time I gave antibiotics it was sulfa and it got on my hand. I passed out from not breathing. The ambulance people stabbed me with an 18 gauge needle into my muscle to give me Benadryl because my heart rate was too high for the epi.

No blood in poop. They haven’t been outside yet just in the shed. I’ll get the flashlight and check more later. I’m trying to calm myself I’m mad and angry like the hulk

Yeah no idea. We are down about 10 chicks in 2 weeks. My husband said it won’t spread because it’ll stay in the shed whatever it is. The older ones I’ll move out next week once I watch them for a week or so.

I’m getting it but they have to order it and ship it to the store I’ll do what I can until them with my apothecary I have every herb and medicinal plant known to man I think. I’m good with knowing what they’re used for too.

Ditto.
We've been carrying them for years and it's a small piece of mind. Doesn't mean we don't have to be very careful, but in the event of an emergency it buys extra time for the ambulance to arrive.

I wonder if it is coccidiosis. Are you wet at all in your environment the last two weeks?
