No my humidity was 40%... styrofoam do not like high humidity above 50% in my location. If you do it higher, you’ll have lots of DIS

We must live in the same kind of climate! Because I have found the same kind of results with my styrofoam bators. I don’t have to use much water at all to keep it at around 35-45%. I barely add any at lockdown because if I do it shoots way high and when they start to hatch it just goes higher. I had a lot of DIS before I figured this out, but now I’m getting awesome hatch rates. This is all definitely a learning experience and it’s not the same for everyone. Guess we just have to use what works for us.

I am just the opposite here! LOL! I have to have the outer track of my hovabator completely full at all times to keep the incubator around 45% and have to have all 4 tracks plus the center rectangle (with a sponge in it) completely full to get up to 60% humidity in the hatcher (another hovabator). If I don't keep water in them, they easily drop to around 20% humididty (some days I have caught it lower than that - luckily that was my hatcher in between hatches)!

Currently ready to ditch half my flock and make room for more geese. (Only half kidding.)

I’m still teetering but thinking I’m going to try and keep my Africans.

ive got a wash stall in my outdoor barn by the house. And I’m thinking of putting a wire framed front on it and putting the geese in there.

don’t y’all think if I go ahead and have the photos done for the real estate listing showing the horse wash stall in full glory without geese in it, that when someone shows up to look and sees geese in it, that it doesn’t really matter?

Oh, yeah....wash stall. Um, I think it depends on the looker.
If they see the stall in pics and imagine their horse in there, perhaps they can overlook something there that is not a horse.
If they look at the stall pics and go...Hmmm, wonder what that's for/how would I use it? having birds in there could short circuit the brain. But...if you know when there will be a showing perhaps putting the babies somewhere else for the showing might then elicit a neutral reaction because while it's set up, it's empty of birds. Of course, who doesn't love baby geese...not someone who considers themselves human...but some lookers might not be into birds.
Having said all that, I'm SURE the property has plenty to offer so that a wash stall conversion should not make or break anything. Maybe ask your agent what he/she thinks about how lookers might react to it.

...ok, sorry, just going through the thought process I had to go through when I listed my place. And all it's weird stalls, coops, buildings, and whatnot.

so I just woke up to go to the bathroom in the night and decided to check the eggs.

the humidity was a little low, so topped that up.
Also, the temp seemed to have dropped down to 36C .

I don’t usually check it at night, so some fluctuation may be normal, but I’m also thinking this could be due to the auto turner motor being switched off as I’m sure that generates some heat.

I bumped the temp setting up by .1*, put a towel and bubble wrap over the top (not covering any vents)...and switched the motor back on (it’s not anywhere that can harm the chicks) so will check the temp when I wake up in a couple of hours.

That still only seemed to bring it up to about 36.5C should I be worried about the temp being this low?
