June Hatch-A-Long

I’ve just about given up hope on all but one egg. I candled them tonight properly after zero action today day 22. It’s 48 hours since the last one hatched.

the one egg that looks potentially viable has a few visible veins, and the air cell has drawn down on one side but it is not internally pipped, and I couldn’t see any movement.

there are two that I’m 99% sure have died in the shell. I’m so happy about our two adorable light brahmas, but will be absolutely gutted if no more hatch. I originally set 16, and was hoping for a hatch of at least 6-8. Only 6 made it two lockdown.

what are your thoughts on these two? Goners?

They do not look good. No movement at all? You can try float testing them. Threads on this forum as well as you tube explaining how. I did this with my last hatch, when 5 eggs did not pip by day 25. Good luck, I am sorry for your losses.:(

They unfortunately don't look promising... If you read the assisted hatch article that was shared earlier, that's honestly what I would do at this point. It's basically an eggtopsy but I go into every eggtopsy like it's an assist just in case there is a viable chick inside. It can sometimes give you answers as to what happened so you can adjust future incubation practices and other times it doesn't clarify much but even to this day I still do eggtopsies unless they're stinky.

I should add that this isn't for everyone and that's totally ok! If you chose to just wait to see what happens then waiting until day 25 before tossing (or if stinky don't wait). Many people chose to do this and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that!

Sorry to hear about your back pain. I feel ya tough! I'm only 45 and have the worst hip pain. Went to the chiropractor and found out my right hip is out of alignment. Sometimes it gets to the point I can't stand for very long, and my right leg tingles all the time. It's at it's worst in the morning after I have slept all night. I feel like a little old lady getting out of bed in the morning. Hope it feels better soon.
I would suggest an x-ray at a traditional medical clinic. (Not being snooty--I went to chiropractors for my first 20 years. There are things they can help with, but not all things.) You may be dealing with something not treatable by chiropractic methods.

I’m normally really good at not assisting but since I wasn’t expecting them to hatch I didn’t move them to another incubator with high humidity so I was scared of the second egg being shrink wrapped.

I helped it a little and I can see its beak. It did look a little shrink wrapped. I stopped assisting at the first sign of blood.

It looks dry. I would rub some ointment on that membrane (no analgesic though--but you know that)

Thank you!!
I ended up assisting it all the way through 😬 after I saw the blood dry out. It was fine and once it fluffed up a little I gave the two to my broody and she accepted them 😊

I’m hoping I can give her more as more of my mixed batch hatch.

Either coincidentally or because of me moving the broody to a brooder and away from the flock, 3 hens laid just hours after I moved her after not having laid for a while.
