June Hatch-A-Long

Got up this morning with DH @ 5:00 to check the egg's. Still NADA, ZIP, NOTHING. Well 23. 24. days I may be in a rubber room. With hair pulled out. Last time I candled (which I have little or no experience) I couldn't see through the eggs, and there was a air cell.
Thats good right?? These are my birthday present to me. Baby silkies. Shipped eggs.

it'll be ok, it'll be fine, stop worring. UGH

Im on day 20 right now for my 3 RIR/Red sex link eggs. I smell funk from the bator but I cant open to check since those are on lockdown.
1 of the 3 eggs has like a reverse pip, indent crack (not from the chick =-). But I went ahead an incubated it anyway.
THis is 3 eggs out of 8 I was sent. Most had detached air cells and didnt develop

But the ebayer I got them from is replacing the whole order...sending along with another order I purchased from him. Yay

good luck to those with pips!!!

This is killin me. I have yet to have any luck with shipped eggs. I did incubate 30 eggs one time and got 1 Marens rooster, $30 bird. He was "challenged" poor fella.

I have 2 pips!!! But both are on the wrong ends

I put 3 eggs in lockdown, but thought all were questionable. There is 1 egg that has an indention/cracks. I really didnt figure it would do anything but it has the most shell off!! Think it is zipping already. (These are huge brown RIR/Red Sex link eggs from an ebayer. I bought 6, he sent 8. But most didnt make it past the 10 day candle as they had detached aircells. The replacement eggs on way right now).
So I will be super happy with 2 hatchlings!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

On another chick note, my 2 BR pullets, 2 gold sex link pullets, 5 rhode island white pullets and 1 RIW roo from ideal poultry came today! So far so good.

I didn't really expect to be in this group. THought I was done with babies for the year. I ended up with two hens setting and one hatched four last thursday. When they were a couple days old, we found a duck with one of the babies in its beak and had killed it and was tossing it like a ball. Tried to get the body but it took off with it in its mouth and we never found it. Have then isolated better now. The next day one of the babies coulnt keep up with the group and I looked at it and it had a gash on its neck. already scabbed over so I suspect a duck again. I took it and put it under the other hen so it could recover hopefully while the rest of her eggs hatched. She had 3 hatched and two more eggs at this point. Last night one more hatched and this morning, I found the egg tossed to the side. It was cheeping but ice cold. I put it back under her and checked again about an hour later and she was off it again. I coulnt hear anything and since it was pipped still I opened it. It was barely alive. I layed it in the nest and she sat right on it so I left it and came back in about 30 minutes and she was off again and it was almost dead. still wet. I took it to the house and ran warm wwater over it and it started moving some and cheaping. I put it under a light to get warm and it is up and walking and making all sorts of racket. So tomorrow I will take it back to mom and hopefully all will be well, and HOPEFULLY... I will be done with babies for the year. lol

Well babie count I think is 5 out of 29 started. Had to leave the hatch, and go to the cardioligist 4 hours away. When I left this morning I had 2, so 3 more must of hatch DH report. I told him DO NOT TOUCH THE BATOR. There alright, until I get home tomorrow. I hope.

This is maddening! I ended up with 8 babies. Helped 3 out of the shell. Last night the bator came UNPLUGED the last three were froze this morning, saved 2 by floating in hot water. Started with 29 eggs and now have 8 babies.
I will try to post pics, they are soooooo cute with high vaults, Oh golly . Yes I will do this again. At least I can realx a little.
