Ceo Had the same thing happen about 2 weeks back. Luckily all my birds stayed in the breeding/brooding house. Or really close to it. And its rather open aired. Any come back or could something have gotten them once outside?
JNJ will prolly tell us AFTER they hatch EL LOL.
Checked Mama guinea again today.Still no pip action. But calmed down when I candled those 9 in bator. Theres 2 really active eggs in bator yet so its not really time to worry. 1 early guy is out and about, just a little unsteady on his feet yet. Looks like he was a 3 day scout at least.
Did my location swaps last nite. Only 1 BO hen was cranky and she calmed down. So next week I will have BR and BO crossed with SLC to add to bator. A project me and oldest daughter planning for her FFA/AG class. Bring on the broody babies.![]()
Other eggs due later this month all look to be progressing well. Now to count out hatch date for newest duck setting. Is there a july hatch yet? JNJ will see you there LOL
I do the same thing sometimes with the pop door. I'll stick my head to see who is roosting where and if any pecking order has changed and then talk to myself all the way down the path back to the house. I'll return in the morning to find the pop door open and all of the hens out in the run having started their day already. I just shake my head and hope my brain farts never get any worse than THAT!I've done it myself... Get busy and busy them go to bed only to realize I gorgot to lock up the night before...
Or come home from work to find the ones I let out have been joined by the ones I didn't (or I thought I didn't) let out... Faulty brains I guess.![]()
Oh Good Lord, you are a little enabler! Now will I have to go get a better incubator for sure.July hatch here too!!! Maybe I'll just go start one... Anyone can join!
21'st here as well!Me the 21
Duck dynasty! Love the names
Woke up this morning and brooder room door was left open all night. ( son forgot to close it ) missing about 30 chicks and one turkey. Ugh. I am so upset. Why me?

Good old Chicken Math.
I started with 5 cornish chicks this March. 4 of the 5 were boys. Rehomed the boys, kept the girl.
I hatched 8 chicks the last week of March. 6 of the 8 were boys. I kept one boy and 1 girl. I rehomed the rest.
I got 5 Light Sussex. 4 out of 5 are boys...again. Im going to make meat out of 3 of the boys, keep one boy and one girl.
I got 6 australorp chicks. 2 out of 6 were boys. 2 of the girls were so neurotic i gave up trying to tame them and rehomed them with one of the boys. Now I have 3 Australorp chicks.
I got 5 Buff Orpingtons....Judging the shape of the bodies (4 are long and narrow, one is short and round), 4 are boys, 1 is a girl. I still havent decided what to do with the boys yet...they are so friendly!!.
I ordered and received 10 meat birds and 2 brown egg layers.
Im now at 31 chickens, 3 of which are adults.
I have 4 eggs in the incubator set to hatch Monday.
Is there a cure for Chicken Math?
I pulled an (almost) stink bomb last night. I candled after smelling something a little...off...and when I got to this particular egg, oh mySo glad I caught it.
Got woke up at 4 am to the sound of chainsaws outside my house. The power was out im not sure how long so of course now im worried about my eggs due the 22nd. Go out this morning and the electric guy had taken half of my mulberry tree out and a maple out front. Really sucks. My bator was at 82 when we got up. I stayed up til 6 when they got it on until my bator was back up to temp. I sure hope they are ok, even if it does delay them a bit.

to those that have lost chicks, eggs and had a bad hatch.
I am now on day 7 and need to candle my eggs. I just have to wait until it gets a bit darker so I can see better![]()
Question - do you have to candle or can you just leave them till day 21, just curious.
