. What ? Where on earth have they gone ?
Ceo Had the same thing happen about 2 weeks back. Luckily all my birds stayed in the breeding/brooding house. Or really close to it. And its rather open aired. Any come back or could something have gotten them once outside?
JNJ will prolly tell us AFTER they hatch EL LOL.
Checked Mama guinea again today.Still no pip action. But calmed down when I candled those 9 in bator. Theres 2 really active eggs in bator yet so its not really time to worry. 1 early guy is out and about, just a little unsteady on his feet yet. Looks like he was a 3 day scout at least.
Did my location swaps last nite. Only 1 BO hen was cranky and she calmed down. So next week I will have BR and BO crossed with SLC to add to bator. A project me and oldest daughter planning for her FFA/AG class. Bring on the broody babies.![]()
Other eggs due later this month all look to be progressing well. Now to count out hatch date for newest duck setting. Is there a july hatch yet? JNJ will see you there LOL
I've done it myself... Get busy and busy them go to bed only to realize I gorgot to lock up the night before...
Or come home from work to find the ones I let out have been joined by the ones I didn't (or I thought I didn't) let out... Faulty brains I guess.![]()
Thanks everyone. We got so busy last night that I told him to go straight inside and shower. Totally forgot. I hope some of them come back. Been looking around every hour hoping to hear chirping. I don't know about the newly hatched polish. They were just a day old. The bedding looks undisturbed. The other chicks could glide up and down and the turkey could fly and run fast. She is about 4 weeks old. So with the bedding looking like that I really hope I can find them.If you find one, share! Actually, no, wait, this is FUN!
Whew! Glad you caught it too. I haven't suffered an explosion yet, hope I never do!
yep, I bet they will be OK. My fancy dancy new mini incubator has a built-in cooling cycle... Down to room temp for 1.5 hours a day to mimic a broody leaving the nest to feed/poop. Seems to make hatches start on hatch day instead of pipping a day early like so many incubated batches do.
That is very upsetting! Any chance some will come back, or do you think they got eaten?
someone with more experience mint chime in, but for me the purpose of candling is to check fertility rates/cull quitters before they become nasty, and to monitor air cell size/weight loss to double check that my humidity is appropriate. Regardless of what your gauges say, what is actually happening in the egg matters most!
Not sure where in OR you are, but if you are near Portland and willing to drive a few hours there is someone here in Gig Harbor (near Tacoma, WA) that raises wheaten Araucanas that you might be able to pick up without shipping. I am sure there are some closer to you too, but let me know if you want info!
