June Hatch a Long

Is it too late to join? I have button quail in the bator on day 8. Expect them to hatch on the 29th. I got 36 eggs shipped, one broke then three more got broken while I had my son in the hospital. I candled this morning and tossed 9 clears, saw veining and movement in a few. The others I saw good air cells in most and a few were just too dark for me to tell so I have 23 eggs still going :)
I hope not as I just joined an hour ago :D Congrats on the 23 eggs!

Thanks:) I'm nervous because I've never hatched in a bator before and these are shipped eggs so I know my chances of a good hatch are not the best.

so far 20 out! had to move em into the brooder early *was gunna wait till tomorrow* its a staggered hatch with one group due just a few days before the other, had one of the second group hatch so i assume its day 18/19 for those, i candled and saw the air pocked had slipped in one of the EE eggs i poked it with a screw to check, and baby is alive! thats a relief! hes poorly positioned, im thinking i may have let that set of eggs hang out too long before incubating them, and must have been on its side?

its the 3rd malpositioned chick ive had this hatch that ive noticed i did something different this time i dont usually do... but who knows what id done this time... take my eyes off myself for one second lol... but the first one pipped must have been day 18 i never saw it it was still in the cup and looks like yolk had oozed out the hole and cemented it in, finally got it out in one piece, opened it up, looks like just poorly positioned, and then drown :( poor guy... I have another thats pipped on the wrong side of the air dip plus too far down, hes resting and absorbing now along with 4 others... only 2/3 that were due tomorrow havent pipped yet, they may not at this point idk...

then i have a handful of EE babies due in a couple days but looks like will start the hatching off with an Andalusion/Cochin! Its very cute

CONGRATS!!!

Just out of curiosity, how many of you are just laying down your eggs for hatching vs in an egg carton or something similar?

I am really weird about this. They say if you incubate in a turner, it is best to stand them in cartons for hatching. I disagree. Only time I keep them upright in cartons, is when the air cells are horrible. So I lay mine down, and let the chick roll into position for hatching.

I'll be laying mine down as well. Didn't have as good a hatch the other way. I think everyone needs to try it & see for themselves. Some have better hatches in cartons. If you do use cartons, I recommend cutting a hole in the bottom of each cell for better ventilation.

Congrats to everybody hatching so far! Fantastic! Sorry for those who are having bad luck. Don't give up though, its a learning process. If you can, try again when you're ready. It's really worth it! :)
