June Hatch a Long

Great news folks! Can't wait to see the buff x chicks! Neat!

I have a pip!!! Now mind you the little booger has pipped at the WRONG end of the egg, but it's a pip. Its one of the Ameracaunas Pat gave me!

I have 4 pipped this morning and same as you.... one of them pipped the wrong end...but he is still unzipping in that same spot so I guess he knows what he is doing lol. I was up off and on all night checking on them. 2 were pipped by 2am and the other 2 pipped sometime between 2 and 6 am. my humidity is 65% so I am hoping and praying that they all hatch alright with no drowning or shrink wrapping.

congrats to everyone with new chicks and good luck to the ones who are still waiting for their lil babies to make an appearance. I will update again when I see more action. I can tell already that this is going to be a day when absolutely no house work gets done. hehe.

You can see that the older chick ran right over to keep her newly hatched half-sibling company.

25 out waiting on the last 2.... anyone heard of a false pip? i checked and had a chick pip too low, i opened it up just enough for it to get some air, that was last night, this morning though it had shifted, its foot was now near the pip i found out where the beak was and broke through right as he slamed his little beak out and peeped loud, how ive left him along and he peeping away and now working on unzipping... how odd... i had to help another one last night tha was positioned bad... never had so many confused chicks before ....

also my fertility was bad on my ameraucanas i thought i forgot to breed everyone but wasnt sure.. oops.... gunna breed everyone again today and start collecting eggs tomorrow for the next go round

this is the smallest hatch ive had in a few months though, gunna be only 27, usually i stop at 30/33 ... oh well :/ happy for what i got

I sure hope so.... the goofy little guy that pipped at the wrong end is obviously very confused....lol. not only has he pipped the wrong end he is unzipping long ways around the egg and getting very frustrated from the sound of it. lol.

The fact that he's zipping & chirping sounds like a good sign. He's going to be exhausted when he's done!

Well my hatch continues....20 so far and a few more pipped. Hopefully some of those older eggs will hatch as well but Im already pleased with the results from the incubator. Got up this morning and figured I'd better get started on their brooder. I have another separate chicken tractor type coop from my main coop I was going to put them in but decided this would be better for the first couple weeks. It just an old large plastic container that somebody gave me but I thought it would be perfect. Large, thick plastic for clean up later yet strong enough nothings getting in, has lid. Somebody cut a hole in it previously so I just put a peice of strong wire grate material over it. For the bedding I made one section with soil mixed with sand and put pine straw on the other side. Gotta go get a heat lamp now. Should have had it done already but the little rascals weren't supposed to be here till tomorrow!

yes it is... I am just glad he is still able to zip and chirp. he will zip for a little while then he gets frustrated and chirps for a few minutes then he rests over and over again. I have been watching him and its really kinda cute. hehe. yeah I have a feeling if he manages to get all the way around he is gonna be one tired lil fella.
