ok yall.... I have 15 out and 2 more pipped. nothing out of the other eggs so far but I am gonna wait to see what happens by morning. oh yea..... I did have one die. it pipped internally but never did pip externally. I guess it suffocated

. so that brings me down to 27 with 15 hatched and 2 pipped leaving 10 more eggs doing a whole lotta nothing. I know 1 that is pipped is still alive I can see his little beak moving in the hole. hehe. not sure about the other one. keeping my fingers crossed for the rest of my babies.

Do you take out your automatic egg turner or just turn it off?
The eggs look so close to the heating element I'm afraid they'll burn themselves when they hatch!
But I'm also afraid if I take it out and lay them on their side some chicks could drown trying to hatch because they were repositioned.
My hatch date is supposed to Thursday, but last time (and only other hatch) they all came on day 19.
No one is rocking in there yet.

I take the turner completely out, personal preference. Moving them prior to lockdown (or as you put them into lockdown) shouldn't matter. They don't position themselves until just before hatching process begins, and a healthy chick can always right itself (once the chicks start hatching, they often roll the unhatched eggs around!) Humidity should be around 65%, depending on your climate. I am humid here, so I keep it more between 55-60%.

Great chick pics everyone! Hopefully I will have some of my own soon! My broody was off the nest for a minute this morning, so I took the chance to candle, and one of the 2 eggs under her has an internal pip and movement. yay!!!
Makes me wonder about the whole lockdown thing...my broody still gets off the nest for a poop and a snack even though hatching is currently progressing. Too scared to rock the boat with my incubation methods though, incubators are so imperfect anyhow!

I wouldn't think so... As long as they are not touching the element. Plenty of people (me included) put paper towels, cardboard, or newspaper down as a hatching surface. I would think the cardboard would "breathe" better too, but I have never used cartons for hatching.

Candle them before lockdown and that will tell you if you have an internal pip and if you are hearing thing or not. Hope you are right. Good luck
