June Hatch a Long

Oh. Angie and Ethel have 16 babies together and were still sitting on 6 eggs. So I took them this morning. Since their oldest baby is now 2 days old. Came home and the kids found another egg under Angie. Lol. Guess she wants more kids.
Anyways candeled the 6 eggs I took from them this morning and I have one internal pip! So I might have a new chick in the morning. I will give Angie her chick back. She is a great momma and let's me Handel the babies. I did give her some chicks out of the brooder so I am sure she will take this baby too!

Apparently my sweet little lavender orpingtons are homicidal!!!
I put them all in a brooder in my master bath til we're ready to put them outside, and I go in to the bathroom and my 2 blue copper marans are facedown in the waterer with lav orps standing on the back of their heads!!! I pulled them out real quick, but it was too late, both had no heartbeat and were getting cold.

Just a quick update. Only 2 chicks have hatched but I have pip's everywhere! lol I guess they are all wanting a break after the big pip

The humidity is staying at right around 75% and I can see beaks moving inside. I think all but a few of the 28 eggs have pips and those are all rocking and moving around too. Ahhhhh patience... a virtue I need

It has been the longest 21 days + of my life .

I have woken up to what I think is 13 11 (finally managed to count) babies from what I can count but they keep climbing on top of each other so difficult to count. 3 are still wet so hatched within the last hour. I think my count is 6 5 silver laced orpingtons, 4 RIR, 1 cream legbar and 1 red sex link, (what I call henny penny's). I am surprised at the red one hatching as the eggs were so badly packaged that 3 of 6 were cracked. I can't really see if there are new pips between the fluff.

I can still see 2 of the eggs with pips, the rest are under the babies so not sure.

I am collecting my g-daughter this afternoon for a sleep over tonight, I don't know who is more excited about the chicks, me or her!

edit: 6 eggs with pips, movement in all of them.
4 eggs no pips

HOW WONDERFUL!!!! I now am at 14 chicks! So I'm half way through LOL I woke up almost every hour to look last night... sigh

I have tons of EE babies from three different hens, one barred rock chick, one buff orpington chick, & one lavender ameraucana. All under my lavender roo. I have one EE chick that has pipped half way and hasn't made progress since last night. I still have pipped eggs everywhere and a new problem. I have eggs inside of already hatched eggs :( I'm afraid it is going to cut off the air supply of the eggs trying to hatch, being doubled up and some of these hatched chicks are now 24 hours old. To open the bator to pull out the chicks hatched and empty eggs or not...

Whoa! Better watch your back with those ones! Yikes! Can chickens be mentally disturbed? I'm sure everything will be ok now. Must have been pretty creepy to see that though!

I took all my chicks out about an hour ago as the incubator was so full of chicks, eggs and egg shells and the humidy was going down with all the chick dust. I took all the babies and egg shells out, put in more warm water and my humidy has gone back up to about 70% where is was struggling to stay at 63/64%. I have just had another 1 hatch and the humidy has gone up to just about 74% but I am thinking it should be fine as it will normalise as the chick drys. I had one egg that pipped soon after I took the babies out so I am sure the eggs were not getting enough circulation with all those chicks inside. My vent has remained half open all the way through this hatch so air should be good.

I think I have definitely got 2 eggs that won't hatch as they have not shown any signs but as they say, never say never.
