June Hatch a Long

Ok EL I tried your way to respong. To much work today and Muscle relaxers tonight and a wee bit of the Apricot Brandy for the shoulder. To much stress is what that posting type gives me.
Broody guinea still on nest. But either way she sits, north or south, she misses 4-5 eggs. Maybe late hatches when they come. Gonna try when she leaves nest to get in incubator ASAP. A week left for her max I bet.
Broody BA has 7 I think and 1 unhatched. 1st few she broke, too many my fault. But except this last 1, no pip or chirp. She would have hatched 100%. And more FF in the bunch

.
Pulled 4 of the 50 guineas due the 10th clears. D10 guinea eggs so well developed. Somehow counted wrong (AGAIN

) 5 rouen eggs A OK. from 10. Set with the D10's. Too early for the 16 guinea and 6 Rouen eggs set Sat Ugggg. Or BY eggs (All browns).
Shipped /local/BY due Sat look ok. Bad saddles but as my brother would say "Run it." Hoping my luck will hold. No bets though.

Leaving seed guinea egg in coop didn't work.
Rouen is still laying in 2nd nest spot. Gonna try let her set if she will.
Still no sign, if I could even tell, of missing guinea #6. 6 gray/pearl I can only tell the 2 males from others LOL. HOPING so hard she sitting somewhere.

Hmmm think thats everything except 1 thing been nagging me since I read a post. To lazy to retype like 20 letters but can type 65 to explain that he's too lazy

. Errr ok.

Oh wrong end of the lifelne but prolly gonna process 3-4 meaties a day til Thurs. 2 Bigger birds will feed my family (9 people) and saves alot on feed with all my chicks coming into the world. Trying save back a few to cross with birds make meat strain. And 1 lil runtyu hen that I will prolly have issues processing cuz she looks SO GREAT. If only she was a WR.

I have five at the moment all with lil chickies it's fun to watch them go about the chicken routine nothing like it !
Hopefully I can 'grow' some broodies for next years hatch. Those broody's look so cute with their chicks.

. You will be just fine without it they make a good bator ,,, and if you have a 50/50 hatch you'll be hooked lol

I think I am hooked without any having hatched yet ! :)
THis all started as a way to break her from beeing broody as i had no fertile eggs and couldn't keep her off the nest. So i figured if she wanted to be stubborn about it i might as well let her hatch some chicks. I orderes some eggs and they shipped from CA to PA in 2 days. They sent extras though and my poor girl couldn't fit 12 eggs under her, So I went to TSC and picked up an LG. ( no sense letting good eggs go to waste) So i set it up and here we are! :) I am so excited! I can wait!

Seems like a perfectly reasonable solution to the problem, too many eggs, buy a LG!!

Good luck, hope both hatches go well

I should have Blue Wheaton Ams hatching today under a broody.
Then the 6th should have Salmon Faverolles, BBS silkies and some mutts.
That's this week...
Next week I have BBS AMs and silkies.
Then Sunday I set 18 Silkied Choc/Mauve Ams and 12 Lemon Cuckoo orps to hatch around the 23rd.

And I bid on some Black Am eggs...

. so keep on hatching... lol.

I use 2 LGs one that I installed a pc fan in and one still air and I get pretty good hatch rates. have even had a few 100%. as long as you can maintain a stable temp and humidity the cheap LGs are pretty good IMO and I have hatched hundreds of eggs. a few years ago I kept my bators running for 8 months straight and I dont' think I have ever set less than a dozen eggs.

right now I have 66 eggs in my bators. I will candle for the first time on Wednesday to see how many I have developing then again on Saturday to weed out any that may be infertile, scrambled, etc. my temp and humidity has been pretty stable never fluctuating more than 1 degree either way so I have pretty high hopes for this hatch as long as everything stays as is.

Sending everyone good incubation and hatching vibes. can't wait to see all the lil fuzzy pics.

I completely agree, mine has been pretty easy to work with, plus its cheap enough that i feel ok with doing my own modifications pc fan etc... Mine keeps a nice stable temp easy, and now that i have the turner i'm not so temped to candle ya know "since i'm already here and rotating them"

Hi everyone! I had a very poor hatch of shipped eggs. Despite Wisher1000's wonderful packaging, they came a long way and were beat up. Out of 14 eggs 1 chick hatched. 3 were early deaths, 4 were late deaths, and 7 were scrambled. The chick that hatched is an adorable Silver Campine. She is very healthy and will run around the brooder, eat, and drink. I am however looking for 1 or 2 other chicks so that she doesn't have to be alone.

Here is the Silver Campine chick. I still need a name for her.

She likes to cuddle with her new friend mirror.

So after two really bad hatches on shipped eggs I will definitely get local eggs next time. Even with a great packaging job like Wisher1000's, shipping eggs is very hard on the eggs.

I hope that everybody's eggs are doing great!
