June Hatch a Long

Wow, June hatch thread is up to 460 posts already and it isn't even June for another 2 hours on the East Coast. I should have came earlier. We have 22 eggs in the incubator. Lockdown is June 6 PM. Hatching 10 SFH and 12 Blue Splash Ameraucana. Temperatures (heat/humidity) are staying steady for now. We placed one of our Barred Rock hens with her man today and he didn't waste any time to get busy. They will stay together for awhile. When can we suppose she is laying fertile eggs? We have a broody little darling Sweetie who has been sitting for a week now and want to give her some purpose.

Well today i switched my 12V Xformer for a 9V, but the humidity was still VERY high. I took out the other plug which worked great, the incubator is now pulling fresh air in, but at a slow enough pace to keep the correct temp. I am at about 60% humidity so it still needs to go down some. I took some water out and only left 2 channels full. hopefully that will do it. It'll be real easy to get the high humidity i need for lockdown though, Thats for sure. I am a little confused by everyones posts about the LG and not being able to get it high enough to reach 40% humidity. I'm completely opposite. Getting excited! i'll be candling 6/2 and then lockdown is 6/5. Here's hoping i have a good hatch!

It is normal for the temp to change when you add the eggs................it will right itself in about 24 hrs........you do not need to adjust...........
They will be fine....................

Generally within 24 hrs her eggs should be fertile. I'd wait a day or 1 egg. Otherwise it won't be fertile yet. Any after that should be fertile. If she had another roo before they will be fertile just not his. And WELCOME to June where we started 2 weeks early.

Chicks hatching today and tomorrow. We will put some eggs (lemon cuckoo orpingtons) in the incubator when they come next week. All June chicks! The lemon cuckoo orpingtons will be the first shipped eggs that we try to hatch. Hoping for a decent success rate.

I learned on another forum that with shipped eggs the air sacs can be wonky so some 1.) wait a few days before putting them in the incubator to let them settle or 2.) Not turn them the first 2 - 3 days in the incubator to give them time to reattach air sacs. You might want to check out this thread....it is very long but was I glad I found it before starting my very first hatch in April. ronott1 is a very experienced hatcher and is very helpful if you ask him. So are alot others but it seems he is always hatching something. Great people out here.
