June Hatch a Long

Good morning,

I have looked in search and become impatient trying to find an answer.

Can anyone give me information on the problems setting pullet eggs.
The last shipped eggs I received are very small..............certain they are pullets.............
Thank you, Tanya
. There is really no problem with setting pullet eggs per say I have hatched them many times in the past and will do so again here in the future as soon as these new slw are ready they will go to the breeding pen the problems that you will have come with the young hen her self when many start there first laying cycle the eggs are very inconsistent with poor shell quality and double yolks and small size as you already noted fertility issues will also be noted as her reproductive system is just getting started and things are just not in time as far as hatching goes they will hatch but with a few more issues that eggs from a hen in her second and most productive cycle,,,, hope that helps

Last hatch I had some dark marans eggs. I used an old slide projector to candle and it worked great. Until it burned out. Then I got a good LED flashlight - like 150 lumens for around $15, and used electric tape and a piece of PVC pipe to make the lens smaller. That works really well but a couple of the very darkest eggs I could only see movement right against the air cell. I've seen 200+ lumens lights but didn't want to spend the money. The nice thing about the high lumens lights - they're LED so they don't get hot. This hatch is faverolles so I can see really easy into these.

Nice pics Hokankai!!! As usual:)
. She does to

I have a pip and she is still wiggling and chirping! The others have not pipped yet. Should I be worried? It is only day 20 and I think that I saw them wiggle but that might just be my imagination.

.........She is fine and the others will come along...........
I think it was El that said the first one is a scout making sure the coast is clear for the rest.

I am picking up some fresh eggs to hatch this weekend. I have a broody who has been broody for 2 weeks now. If I gave her eggs, do you think she would set on them for another 3 weeks or is that asking too much? So far she goes back every time I throw her out of the box, so it is either hatching some eggs or the broody buster for her :)

is your humidity good ?? about 65 ish

I am actually having a problem getting the humidity up. Right now it around 50%. I keep adding a bunch of water through a straw but it won't go up. I think that I am going to put a pot of boiling water in the room. That helps put humidity in the air when it is really dry in the house in the winter. I noticed that a week ago when it was really humid outside and the window was open it kept humidity in the incubator. I know how important it is to have that humidity high so that the membrane is kept moist.

Have to show off my mama. She hatched out her last baby on the last day of May. Bantam Favorelle. She's a good mama. I haven't had a broody in a few years, so I am loving this!

I lifted her up, and all 7 popped out. She started clucking at them, telling them to get
back in here.

She went back to the corner of the area, can you see the little one peeking out in the
picture below? Can ya tell I'm loving this? Haven't had a broody in years. Did I already
say all of that? lol.. Fun!
