June Hatch a Long

We had a flying squirel in our house right after we moved in. The wood stove wasn't in yet so the chimney and wall were open. We chansed him around for 45 min bfore we could get him out the door. lol

On a nother note... i am jelouse of those who have barnvelder eggs. they were the only ones on my ever growing list i couldn't get. So i have some reserved for the week after my hatch date! :) LOL
nothing like back to back incubation!

So those of you who dont have me on face book let me update you on my day yesterday. I have a 2 yr old beagle who is in hunt mode 24/7 most the time she hunts squirrels. We have no rabbits here. So yesterday afternoon I see her coming across the yard with something in her mouth. I yell at her to drop it, which she does, and I go to inspect. She is notorious for eating things she shouldnt and then of course I get the wonderful job of cleaning it up. So I make it to the "thing" and I see this soaking wet critter. Only thing dry is it's head So I am thinking it's a baby squirrel. So I post the picture on face book, and several people say "it's a baby squirrel, my Mom used to raise them" So of course I believe these people. They tell me to warm some milk and keep the little fellow on a heat pad ( It's shivering like crazy). And then feed warm milk with an eyedropper So I put it in the sunshine and after about 30 mins I warm it up some milk. I reach down with the dropper to give it some milk and the dang thing comes to LIFE, JUMPS up and out of the cooler and lands right on my bare foot, which made me instantly release the 3 cups of coffee I had earlier. Then proceeds to run UP my left leg to my knee. I am jumping and hopping, I am sure I dislocated something! And then it run off down my hall into my spare bedroom. When I finally catch my breath, and change my clothes, I head to the bedroom. I chased this critter, which I know now to be a CHIPMUNK all over this room. These things are as fast as greased lightening! At 10pm last night I give up, open the door to the room, and go to bed. So 7am this morning I am sitting at my computer reading emails and catch something out of the corner of my eye. It's the CHIPMUNK and it runs down the floorboard to my woodpile I have here in the house. So I think, if I open the door, rattle the wood a little it will run back the way it came, and out the door! WaLah! So I get the door propped open, get the broom and start tapping on the wood pile, I hear a noise behind me, turn around AND, my rooster has brought my whole flock INSIDE my house!!!!!! So now I have a crazy freaked out chipmunk, 3 screaming chihuahuas, 1 rooster and 8 hens all in my house!!! I seriously feel like I am stuck in the movie Caddy Shack!
LOL!!! Definitely one of those "what could possibly happen next" kinda days! Thanks for the chuckle to start the day!!!
Hi everyone! I had a very poor hatch of shipped eggs. Despite Wisher1000's wonderful packaging, they came a long way and were beat up. Out of 14 eggs 1 chick hatched. 3 were early deaths, 4 were late deaths, and 7 were scrambled. The chick that hatched is an adorable Silver Campine. She is very healthy and will run around the brooder, eat, and drink. I am however looking for 1 or 2 other chicks so that she doesn't have to be alone. Here is the Silver Campine chick. I still need a name for her. She likes to cuddle with her new friend mirror. So after two really bad hatches on shipped eggs I will definitely get local eggs next time. Even with a great packaging job like Wisher1000's, shipping eggs is very hard on the eggs. I hope that everybody's eggs are doing great!
That mirror pic is ADORABLE! I suffered from the shipped egg blues last hatch... 3 chicks out of 21 eggs. Trying my hand with local eggs this time!

Just set 9 Cream Legbar eggs for a June 24th hatch date. The 2 with side air cells never did correct, so I put those 2 under my broody. I figure if anyone can hatch them, it would be her. CL eggs are very spherical though, which makes it hard to tell the pointy end from the fat end (the air cell helps when it is in the right place!), so hopefully it won't be a huge issue. The other 7 are in my brinsea mini.
I have loved the digital temp control on the brinsea so much I just ordered a digital thermostat/heater/fan combo to retrofit into my hovabator. It should be much more reliable as a hatcher now. The wafer thermostat did OK, but would seem to drift in one direction or the other so I could never trust it when out of town, and we travel a lot, for short periods of time. I will be gone for 4 days and then 3 days during this hatch alone... This hatch will be its maiden voyage, but of course once it gets here I will run it for a few days to see how it does.
Crossing my fingers for some pullets this time..3 cockerels last hatch!

. If you ordered the one from the 1588 digi from gqf you will love it I replaced a older hova with the 12v digital and luv it , it is very very consistent and I also like the 12v dc capability to run it in a car or on a battery during outages it works quite well

Mine's from incubator warehouse, but sounds like the same module with the 12v adaptability. It sounds like all I was hoping it would be! Yay!

I was contemplating wether or not i wanted to open up my eggs that dont hatch in this batch just to see. This is only my second time hatching and i didnt do this the first time.

I completely agree, mine has been pretty easy to work with, plus its cheap enough that i feel ok with doing my own modifications pc fan etc... Mine keeps a nice stable temp easy, and now that i have the turner i'm not so temped to candle ya know "since i'm already here and rotating them"

ha ha.
yeah I don t' mind modifying mine either. I have a turner in one of mine and not the other so yea ....i still get to candle mine 3x a day... hehe. thing is..... i put my American game eggs in the one with the turner and the mix breed eggs in the other so..... im not too concerned with opening that bator too much. with the bator open anyway the temptation to candle them is just WAYYYYY too much to resist as long as i am running 2 bators i can hatch pure breed eggs and still give in to lid lifting urges without feeling TOO guilty. lol.

the things we do.... lol
