June Hatch a Long

Well, I was not expecting to get in on the June hatching thread, as I was sure I was done incubating for the season.....
Then my brother called to tell me he had a duck that was on a nest get killed, so I drove and got 12 eggs, with no idea when she had started setting.
that was a couple weeks ago.
I have never done ducks before, do I just threw them in and hoped for the best.
Wouldn't you know it the twelfth one hatched a bit ago

They are cute little buggers, but good grief for slobs!

Now how precious a story is THAT?!!!

Anyone try to Fedex eggs? I would think that they would be a bit more gentle
Haven't there been alot of things on net about fedex Throwing packages over gates/fence in last couple years? Just was thinking I remembered some stories.

Anyway BA finally got moved. AFTER hatch. She took right to the pen after I added babies.
On my SLCxBO chicks I noticed a sizable differance on the coloring. Only have 2 (1 incubated, 1 Broody hatched) that are REALY defined with chipmunk design. Others just a dark spot on back of head. I know its not a tried and true SL method but tagged em and gonna track see if it is SL trait I can use. If it is I will prolly have 2 pullets and 7 cockerals

. Oh well incubation luck can't be counted on for sex if I do. May or may not be around for this weekend hatch.
And broody guinea HAS to be close to hatching. She stayed on nest until after the rain today. I notice she couldn't cover all eggs so while she was snacking I pulled 10 eggs and tossed in bator. Most have decent developement, so waiting it out. I did check and she went back sitting after the snatch. If not I was gonna grab others and add to bator too. WIll see in a couple days if I messed everything up.
Last rouen eggs I put in bator I think are developing. Still kinda early for candleing but I did.
Anyway heres to another day of bird keeping and not losing any birds.

I set it up and it has now been running for about 12 hours and temp is holding absolutely steady at 37.5C or 99.5F. Hoping to set eggs tonight and then start praying, biting fingers and stressing until day 21 - all the fun parts.

So El, I put in 12 and 10 went into lockdown, yesterday they started pipping so I uped the humidity, have 8 of 10 pipped! Eggs are rocking and rolling! Hatch day isnt till tomorrow. This is the difference with local to shipped eggs! I needed this, I forgot I could hatch eggs! LOL
Oh and the chipmunk has made it back to the woods. My phone froze or I would have gotten a great video, Hubby in underwear chasing munk, fire tool in one hand, firewood in the other, beagle dog screaming at the top of its lungs. I was atop one of the dining room chairs. It bounced around the great room like a pinball, I opened the sliding door and out it went to freedom. Dont you know this Munk had a great story to tell its Munk friends!!!!
