June Hatch a Long

An update from last nite.  Three have hatched.  2 had pipped over 14 hours before I went to bed but nothing more.  I did expand the hole enough for them to breathe since the membrane was still covering the hole.  4th egg nothing.  I read the above info and did the water test.  Egg floated but didn't move.  I did an "eggtopsie" and the fully formed chick was dead inside.  The air sac was so big it most likely couldn't move into position to pip the shell.   Wishing I intervened yesterday!  This was such a horrible batch with only 4 viable out of 15!  Hopefully I have enough hens and a couple of good roosters to only do my own from now on!  Thank you everyone for all the info!
Here are three blue Ameraucana's  Looks like a couple of splashes and maybe a blue?
that's what you are after a pair will do but a trio is better my rule of thumb is to set 20 to get a trio and move on from there with my own eggs it took six months to establish my Hampshires from a trio of a set of 20 I did hatch more outta the set but only two hens I think it was 6&2 outta 20 but now I have a sustainable flock not ideal but effective good luck moving forward

Been super busy and came back to over 400 messages on this thread... WOW!!

Just wanted to announce my first baby from this hatchalong! It was hatched last night, about two days early. Little red baby by my gorgeous mahogany and black cockerel (Mommy is either smooth or frizzled...time will tell if I got a frizzled baby this time)

Pics soon!!
. Congrats !

We have 15 eggs going into lockdown this afternoon. Cochins and Amerecauna/EE's. Good luck everyone!
Never knew that about the temp spike at day 3 - silly me never thought about the chicks generating their own heat as they develop - and I've experienced it enough with my own kids as they developed...

Lord have mercy this is a chatty BUNCH!!!

Here is my hatch. Neighbor gave me 35 eggs. Found out at day 7 we had some serious fertility issues. At day 14 culled down to 12, at 18 down to 10 for hatching. I got 9 live chicks! These are RIR and BR roos over RIR,BR,and BO hens

And today is hatch day. Only one at the bottom left made it on hatch day. It hatched after midnight....lol I did have 2 that were a little sticky, once chicks started hatching humidity got a little high, but all in all very pleased with this bunch. Got another bunch of the same due on the 11th. Same for this bunch. Started with 24 culled down to 12. Havent made final cull yet.

Wow congrats to all that hatched and good luck to those on lockdown and

to those that had chicks not make it.

I have received my last batch of eggs this morning so all eggs are now in the incubator. The lady I bought this last batch of eggs sent me 3 extra because they were arrived a day late

I should have had 21 eggs, 2 broke plus 3 extra and now I have 22.

Good luck all.
