June Hatch a Long

All this activity is getting me excited!! Lockdown is next Friday and the 17th should be hatch day. Down to 7 eggs from 12, 5 were duds.

Congrats on all the new babies, they look adorable.

I can't wait until mine hatch but they are only due 27th of June, such a long time to wait.

I was given a good idea for candling and thought I would share it with you all. If you cut off the top of a plastic soda bottle (like a home made funnel) and cover the outside with a dark tape, pop the egg inside the funnel and shine your torch through the bottle top so the light is concentrated on running through the egg and it is easier to see inside the egg.

That sounds like a very good idea. We will have to try it the next time. Thanks for sharing. My chicks are on day 20 1/2 - this evening is day 21. We will see.

Is this membrane too dry? This chick started zipping around 12:30, so it's been 9 hrs. Humidity holding at 65% on 1588 incubator.

Eek! If it smells get it out asap. I'd pick it up by covering it with a plastic bag just in case so no bacteria falls from it.

if you look closely try to see if the membrane is stuck to the chick or if the chick can move away from it at times.

I wish I could help but I am new to hatching. I think you it may be dry if your humidity is at 65%

Regulate the humidity in your incubator by measuring it with a hygrometer.

• Create an environment for your eggs where the humidity is at 60 to 65 percent during the first 18 days.
• Raise the humidity levels to 80 to 85 percent for the last 3 days (days 18 to 21).
• Add moist surface area to the incubator to increase the humidity level. Add a big pan of water or wet sponges.
• Remove moist surface area to decrease the humidity level. Change a big pan of water out for a smaller dish or remove wet sponges.
