June Hatch a Long

Started a new job this week and have been too exhausted to post. Woke up this morning to one of my mutt eggs out. Can hear pipping in at least two others. I had to make a makeshift hatcher as the guinea eggs needed more time in the incubator They are also in the hatcher now.. The day I moved the mutt eggs my postman, who knows I am a hatchaholic, dropped off 28 pheasant and 3 quail eggs for me to try. So as soon as the guineas came out of the incubator in went the new eggs. Today is my only day off this week. I cook in a resort restaurant. I hope more hatch while I am home.

Question for the group. I finally had one of the two I had in the bator late last night. Happy Father's Day to me!! I have another egg rockin' in there. As best as I can guess, the broody started sitting on the them May 23. I moved 7 eggs I had started earlier in the bator and moved the two she was sitting on to the bator on May 26. Should I be counting days from when I put them in the bator or when I assume she started sitting on them? THe one is doing fine drying out in there fine but I don't want to lose the other from inattention. I also don't want to screw up another hatchling by moving too quickly with help. Already did that with several others. Any ideas folks?

when colecting eggs do i need to tilt side to side while waiting to be incubating or i can just put it in a carton til the day i will incubate.?

also how long can i let an egg stand before its too old to incubate?

If you are storing for incubating you need to store small end down in an egg carton, you only have to turn/tilt once a day. Coolest area in the house. I have heard differences in how many days they are good, I believe 7 is the max to get maximum fertility.

Hi Dolfi,
Yes.. Turn ( or tilt) at least 3 X's a day after collection..........keeps the yolks from sticking on one side...........
Some say 10 days.7 is best for collection time.
GOOD LUCK................

no wonder i have such a problem with my hatching %. I was colecting weekly and than sit it till day i would incubate. so they would sit sometimes for about another week or two.
was getting only 50% or less. so i guess ill eat the eggs in the carton that i colected last week. lmao

You need to collect daily and then place at the end of the week, in the incubator.

I have another one pipping and cheeping in the shell. I have no idea how long these eggs were under the bushes in the area around the yard. Even if I only have two hatch out of 14 I will be happy. I have never hatched anything from a found nest. The found guineas are still in the hatcher. I am not expecting anything from them for another 3 days. Keeping my fingers crossed for a good hatch

so then if i incubate at the end of the week ill have three hatching dates for one month
Not sure I understand........................

If you put them in at the same time.it is one hatch date.
when you collected them does not count................
Or did I totally misunderstand..................

what i mean is that if i collect and have one week i will have to hatch very little eggs and if i want more i would have to incubate them in diferent weeks
