June Hatch a Long

Built this bator a few weeks ago and set 37 eggs. It has went pretty well so far I think. Today is day 18 and looks like one has pipped already which worries me a little. Its addicting! Im already thinking about doing another batch. These will be a mix between an EE roo and EE hen and Buff roo and RIR hens. Should be good egg layers which is all I care about cause my 2 yr old and 4 yr old can gk through some eggs. Now my neighbors are wanting eggs . So I figured out real quick I need to keep about 10 good hens and hatch my own so I can replenish my flock each year. May get some Marans eggs for next hatch.

I was thinking of doing my own bator can you share how you did yours. it looks like something i could do. can you post better pictures

yes I will try and post some better pictures. I basically just took a base from an old gun cabinet. I mounted 2 60 watt lights in a metal housing that swivels so I can move lights just a little if needed. Then I wired a hot water heater thermostat up . I know most say they aren't accurate enough and it wasn't at first so following some tips from others I drilled 2 holes in it and have my fan positioned where it blows across my lights and the thermostat. Onced adjusted it worked fine and has been cutting on at 98 off at 100. The base has a bottom storage area which is handy for keeping extra bulbs and stuff. I also lined the door with some self adhesI've weather stripping to make sure the door sealed good.

Are you hatching sexlinks? Or self sexing chicks?

Anyways early birds seem to get the worms.... errr bugs. Have another early guinea hatch. 20ish out and about and 5-6 more pipping. ONly 3-4 not started yet. And my project eggs are starting to pip. 1 at least. Don't have high hopes for the duck but this will put me around 50 keets this month.
