June Hatch a Long

ok we have 6 pipped now and 2 of them are working on unzipping their eggs. a few of them sound as if they are very anxious to get out. lots of chirping coming from the bator.

I am so sad. My silkies didnt mate it to the hatch. I was so excited about them. I had lots of oegb hatch and 6 polish. But I really wanted my silkies. They were shipped so I think that was the problem. Just heart breaking.

So sorry ceoka :-( maybe try again? Papa brooder sells silkie eggs and his packaging is wonderful. I will be ordering from him frequently.

Sometimes I think it would be better to just leave the hen in the bushes with her clutch and wait and see who comes out after 21 days-- so nerve wracking....

OK so here are the results from my first hatch!

Out of 8 eggs - 4 fluffy butts (all Jersey Giant, mail order hens and a breeders line Roo,he is enormous)....

Of the other 4 eggs (did an eggtopsy in the compost bin)-- 2 eggs with green stinky inside, 2 looks to be day 14 or 15 (I know its a waste)-- they must have made it into the clutch before I got around to marking them, one looks to be on day 4 or 5 (it wasnt marked, some sneaky hen must have added her egg when we werent looking...

Also 2 were broken early on.... (10 total actually)

Now to getting those chicks raised!!!!

I do have two pairs of silkies. So I am just going to hatch my own eggs. Mine just started laying well so I should be good. And they are not shipped. I have one silkie egg on day 10 and one on day 15. So crossing my fingers!
