June Hatch a Long

Well I do have other birds. I collected the soil and sand from an area in my yard but I let my chickens free range sometimes so they do have access to it. The pine straw has definitely been exposed to other birds. My chickens like to go to that area and turn it up when I let them out. I didn't know if this would hurt them by introducing cocchi to them or if it would help by possibly introducing it to them early. My understanding is thats what the feed does and helps them build a resistance up. Im doing more research now.

Yes it will help them build up a resistance. But it's a long time debate if this is good or not. Some say feed medicated to keep them safe and others say to let nature take it's course. Personally I don't do medicated and never have had a loss. Many think that is a risk though. So it falls into personal beliefs/preferences. I also don't vaccinate my chicks born here as want to breed healthier strains even if that means losing birds.

Sorry been crazy busy here.....AWESOME hatches going on, and some loss too, so sorry! Sbrown you are having a great hatch! And I always start on medicated starter.

My one wrong end pipper just hatched, its an Ameracauna! Another one pipped on the wrong end, its one of my cream legbars. Other 10 doing nothing....lol

ok ladies and gentlemen...... I finally have 1 hatched and it wasn 't either one of the zippers. I now have 9 more pipped...... I think. I will post pics of the babies later this evening or in the morning when more have hatched.

more more more. Come on babies!!

Ok, need advice. All eggs have hatched but 6 I think. I can hear chicks in them chirping but they have not pipped yet. Should I help or leave them alone and give another day?

Monita, your hatch sounds like it is going great! Congrats to you, JNJ, and everyone else getting chicks! Mine are locked down on day 19. Some rocking, but nothing else yet! I am already hovering like crazy...

Well the turkey eggs will only be my second run with my incubator. I have never set shipped eggs before, only my own and my mother's flocks eggs. I had a 70% success rate with my last hatch not counting the 4 duds. I only have 5 turkey eggs so I really hope something hatches. From what I've read, turkeys are even harder to hatch :( I really hope not.

Oh, the turkey eggs are a gift from a friend, that's how I got them.
