That is so funny! My first silkie was blues too. A male emitt and jenevive who skunk got. I still have emitt. I got him a new blue girl. Jenevive Too! Lol.I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE silkies!!!
I finally had to stop raising them though because we can only have so many chickens in the city so I'd have a few silkies, get super attached, then 5 months down the line find out I had boys!
My first silkie was a blue roo and I wouldn't part with him, ended up keeping him for 3 months after he started crowing. I bought a chicken diaper (a real thing!!!) and would get him at 5am and bring him in the house until like 9am when he stopped. (We aren't allowed roosters here). Finally it was too much and he needed a new home. Still my favorite chicken I've ever had!!!
These are great pictures. I agree if you can get a momma chicken to take care of them go right ahead. We have BR eggs under two broodies. The one should be hatching in a about a week if all goes well She has been sitting with them patiently. The other hen came late but hopefully she will hatch her clutch. The eggs are from 2 of our BR hens and our BR roo.Hee hee, the waiting is a killer! Even with half of my chicks hatched, the 2 eggs with no pips yet are killing me!!!! To help with the waiting I stole some pics of Ava with her new babies. The incubator babies aren't fluffy yet, so I am waiting until the hatch is done for their photo op

So precious.
Yeah the little Egg that Could!Day 22 and an egg I thought was a quitter has pipped. At the wrong place. I can see him/her working on getting through, and there is a little peeping. The air cell is at the top of the picture, though. I'm afraid this little one will have a hard time of it. Maybe another tiny pip on another egg I had thought had a blood ring a week ago, not sure. Wouldn't that be something if only the ones I thought were dead pipped. Hmmm.

Keep an eye on them and make sure membrane stays moist. Can you see the beak?Alright, I need help... Wish El was on!!
Anyway, today is day 23 and nothing so I pipped holes in the tops... But the holes are probably too big... I can see at least 3 still breathing... What do I do??? No pips so should I try to help??? I'm afraid if I don't help he will shrink wrap even though humidity is at 70. I raised it from 65 to try to make sure the membrane won't dry out...
Just like everyone else, I really want these babies.
