June Hatch a Long

Just wanted to share this with you. Shot it half an hour ago, when helping one of the broody's chickens hatch. Quite happy with how it turned out

Wow, wonderful photograph and chick is gorgeous, love the colour

Great pic!!!

I have 2 hatched so far, and 6 more eggs with little cracks.
So far 2 of them I marked questionable at hatching.
I hope the rest come through, I could have a record hatch for me, we will see!

I saw one egg moving which I was not sure whether it had a chance as it had a crack in it and I put candle wax on it so I am really surprised. All quiet now, no more cheaping, hope they are alright.

How long does it normally take from hearing cheaping to piping? What if they start pipping on the part of the egg that is in contact with the incubator instead of in the air (if that makes sense)?

Sorry about all the questions, guess you can tell this is my first attempt.
It can be another 24 hours. It's a very tiring process! But they can also do it right after. It depends on the chicks strength, position, etc.

And they usually will pip into the aircell up, but I've seen them do MANY other place and still be fine :)
I am so not going to sleep tonight

but I will close all doors between the bedroom and the lounge so I can cheap at them whilst DH sleeps. Sounds like you have rock and roll chicks, maybe play them some music.

Thanks guys! It's a little buff orpington, I've had three of them hatch today all looking good. Hatching time is magical, isnt it?

Good luck those of you that are in the middle of it! I'm finally catching my breath for now. Next hatch here is july 2nd - only 1 egg though. I'm still looking forward to it. Haha.

Congrats to everyone!

Checked on my broodies and there are 2 chicks out of 15 eggs. Hoping they all start popping out. I will get out there later and take some pics.

Question. How many chicks can one moms take care of at once?

I think its anywhere in the next 24-48 hours from chirping to pipping. This is only my 3rd hatch since Jan 22 this year & they've all been different.

I meant to thank whoever it was that posted the styrofoam incubator cheat sheet. That is great! I'm in lockdown tomorrow! Weeeeee!
