June Hatch a Long

Great stories! Well, I decided to get the blue laced red Wyandottes eggs. Just 6 for the new broody hen. And wouldn't you know it, her sister is in the nest box next to her! Aaaaah! We're going to break her tomorrow. Sheesh!

I've moved 3 mutts & 5 Malines to the brooder now. Assisted that weird one. Not sure if he'll make it. 4 are zipping & 6 no pips at all in bator.

I assisted 3 out this morning. Hoping they'll be all right. The 2 I assisted yesterday are acting weird. They won't stretch out their necks and they thrash & kick, pause & do it again. It's like they're still trying to get out of the egg. Other 3 seem okay, chirping here & there & resting. There are 6 that have no pips at all on day 22 now. Guess I'll be doing float tests on them later.

I'm happy I got 5 healthy Malines & 3 healthy mutts in my brooder.

Malines boy (I think) above.

The only yellow mutt.

Malines girl (I think).

Mutt.
Did float test on 6 eggs. They all floated with water line at the air cell mark. No movement. I dried off & put back in bator. Any opinions whether they are still alive or not? Are they just late?

I still have 4 eggs in the bator. 28 days, so little hope, but I think I see movement in one of them (though it could just be something floating around when I move the eggs>

What is the latest that anyone has had an egg hatch (when the hatch was slow anyway - first chick hatched on day 24)?

One chick .one time on day 27............named it 27.................one of those stories. Was going to empty and clean the incubator which I usually do day 25.............
and sure enough, there was a chick looking at me through the window chirping it's head off..........

I'm obsessing over this egg. I had a nightmare that I broke it open only to find a live baby almost ready to hatch that I doomed. Glad your baby survived.

I've been opening a couple eggs a day since day 24 (the ones I could tell were quitters. One was fully formed and had not been able to pip -- yolk all absorbed. Heartbreaking. Most of the other quitters appear to be at about 2 weeks or a tiny bit longer. I know this is just wishful thinking. I know it is. Still can't open those last two possibles. Tomorrow. I'll do it tomorrow.

Hi! We have a batch of chicks that are due to hatch Friday and Saturday. I just went to check on them and found a foul smell and this egg... Any ideas what's going on? It doesn't quite smell rotten but doesn't smell cooked either.

Our incubator has been hovering around 99.5 but has gone down to 98.6 and up to 102 at times. The humidity remains relatively constant at 40-45%
