June Hatch-A-Long

I have 6 little babies under my broody mama. She will growl at me, but hasn't pecked me, yet. I think I may put one more under her. Will see how it looks for her, she is small.

Still can't believe my leghorn went broody. Glad I had some eggs for her to lay on, I put extra babies under her as they hatched in my bator. :) She didn't mind. ;)

Congratulations!

Don't those rare broody layers make the best chickie mommies?!

I have a Red Sex Link that just hatched out 10 chicks earlier this month and I couldn't ask for a better broody. When she was on the eggs, we were having rainy cold snaps, and she never left her nest long enough to even eat, so we had to bring food to her as she was starting to really lose weight. And no other critter had better come within a good 8 to 10 feet (or more) of her chicks or there is heck to pay, and she doesn't care how big.

I have at least one guinea egg with an internal pip at the beginning of day 25! Whoo-hoo!

I also have 2 chicken eggs on day 19 in with the guineas. One is a bantam sizzle. Do they tend to hatch earlier than normal sized chickens?

It looks like we have 14 chicks from the old Brower tin can incubator! The others we have checked developed and then stopped. It randomly spiked the heat on day 12, so that would be consistent with the development we see that stopped. Oh well, at least we got some! And cute little buggers they are, too!
