if you hear peeping then that does mean they have internally pipped. This last hatch I had quite a few that were internally pipped on the morning of day 19 and by later that day I had my first external pips, then by that night I had my first chick. I went to a friends house so I wouldn't sit here all day long watching for the eggs to hatch. Came home at midnight and had a chick. I then proceeded to stay up all night long watching them hatch until around 9 the next morning I went to sleep with maybe 7 eggs left to go, and when I woke up at 11:30 to the mail lady bringing me more eggs all 17 had hatched. So..hang in there. If you are sure none of the eggs have an external pip you can candle a couple. Always makes me feel better to pick up an egg hear it peeping and candle and see it scratching around in there. But if you do have a pip, even a tiny one then leave them be.I feel like the saying should be, a watched egg never hatches.. I did hear some chirping but there are no pips... So does that mean one has internally pipped. How long do they have after that to hatch?
Can u tell it's our first hatch?![]()
Well that will teach me not read through to the end before replying
We have 2 very small external pips!
So today I ventured to the food store in Westwood New jersey. Its very simple to get to once you know how to get there. I was lucky and got a parking spot with a meter with an hour and 16 minutes on it. lol. I only used up 17 minutes. I bought 10 lbs of food for $0.99 a pound.
I asked the guy what he would recommend for newly hatched chicks and he pointed to a bag. SO I said 10 lbs. They had 20 lbs but I don't think I needed 20 lbs. lol. Right now it is in a brown paper bag taped up. The last time i had food, my dog got into the bag. She thinks she's a chicken. lol. No harm no fowl. lol.
Still, at 4:42pm on Day 20 no pips...no internal or external pips. My mom was asking should i rotate the eggs just a bit? I said no. But should i? Just to wake up the chicks to say "Lets go"... ? lol..
