Ya know I don't like to be ugly but if I paid $65/dozen eggs I would be mad at the shipper for the way they were packed. No bubble wrap? No extra protection?!?! for $65 EGGS?!?!
There was some bubble wrap, but I think the main issue was that, no matter how they were wrapped, any eggs on the OUTSIDE, especially the CORNERS, of a box WILL BREAK if they encounter enough force. I know some people swear by these foam blocks. And there was even bubble wrap AROUND those foam blocks. But, as you can see, it's just not sufficient.

One shipment I got had a box within a box with padding around the inner box and that was the best hatch I've ever had.

Well no eggs today

i used the foam twice. the first time was just single boxed, but packed very well I thought. they ended up crunched. the second one i double boxed. and they still ended up crunched.

i'll stick with bubble wrap and whatever else packing materials i have on hand. got a huge box of styrofoam bits, packing peanuts & such off freecycle recently. 8)

Shipped eggs are always a gamble. I've had some 100% hatches and some 0% hatches on shipped eggsi usually get betheen 40 and 50% but am happy if I get 1 to hatch.

when i first started getting shipped eggs i read and was told by many, anything over 20% is considered good...

like Jim, i've had some 0, and some 90% (from Jim!) but if i get 1 i'm happy. granted, 1 of some odd variety means that now i need to get more so i might make a pair. LOL

ok and an oddball off the wall question maybe... would turkey poults be better off in a brooder or with a broody momma?

i've got 3 of the royal palms due next week, and i've got BOTH of my girls in the mille fleur pen trying to cram into 1 nest. LOL contemplated giving them the turkey and a few cochins that are due same time... i would give them a bigger nest before hand if i decide to do that, but wanted to get opinions...

oh and can the roo stay with them all since they're a 'family'?

I'm not sure the answer but if you decide to put them with a MF broody PLEASE take pics on week 3-4 they are going to be BIGGER than momma and I think it will look funny. LOL
