A Dickey 2x2. Love my Dickey. Got a hatcher too.
I am leaving this one alone

I'd like to participate in July, but I'll need to figure out how to procure eggs. Snowman is the only chicken left in the coops, and he is due to be picked up on the 11th. There are 4 chicks in the brooder (my husband picked up three EEs to keep the little chocolate company -- it's snuggled underneath them as we speak...see if you can find the little yellow and chocolate butt beneath the new chicks in the pic).

Don't worry -- I won't send any scrambled $65 eggs to someone as a swap

**oh, and I STILL haven't gotten my incubator**

As if smashed eggs and two dead chicks weren't enough, I ordered a second incubator last week from a well-reviewed vendor who said it would be shipped priority mail and get here by this last Monday. Instead, it was sent via UPS and wasn't going to arrive until today. When I asked what the deal was, the vendor said it was probably just a mistake and they were sorry. Uh-huh. Oh, but that's not all! The UPS status was "out for delivery" until 30 minutes ago when it was changed to "The package was missed at the UPS facility, UPS will deliver on the next business day."

I swear, if this weekend isn't better than this week, I may shoot myself.

well, knock on wood, we've got good generators... had a heck of a storm go thru last night, close to a million people without power in sw virginia and southern w. virginia.

the UPS (battery backup) kept the incubators going long enough for hubby to get the generators gassed up and running. only thing we've got plugged in right now are brooder heat, incubators, fridge and freezer, and we can switch out between the a/c and the well if needed (just filled up the horse water, chicken 'pond' (aka kiddie pool), bathtub (for flushing), and my indoor pond - above ground wood framed pond for supplying my indoor animal water needs. about 115 gallons, has my aquatic garden and guppies in residence. LOL now we can go a day or 2 without water if needed.

this last hatch was kinda crappy... had great fertility on some shipped cochin eggs, but the incubator was running cool and i didn't realize it, i had 1 hatch from the shipped eggs, 1 black from my self blue split cochin pen and 2 from my mille fleur cochin pen, and 1 mille fleur cochin from a swap from john farmer. she hatched out last night during the storm.

so cross fingers power comes back on sometime soon, or we'll be broke from buying gas (if any gas stations have power to pump gas...)

Okay, question....

After 3 days in the incubator, shouldn't there be some sign of veining?? Our control eggs (those we snagged from the pens before the chickens were sold) showed obvious veining at 3 days. ShellyGa's didn't show veining at 3 days or 6 days. Now Zookeeper's eggs show no sign of veining at 3 days.

???
