Juniper and her babies

Juniper, our Olive Egger, really wanted to become a mother so on Saturday I bought 4 baby chicks from our local feed store.
2 Red Sex Links, 1 Barred Rock, and 1 Black Australorp. We actually got the Black Australorp by mistake because they were in with the Barred Rocks but I love it already.

This run that they're in is only temporary as I'm still setting up the their little coop.

I don't have chickens so pardon my lack of knowledge but she adopted babies just like that? That's so sweet!

First she went broody for a whole week and then it took a night for her to accept them. It's very tricky when trying to give broody hens some baby chicks.

Yes, some react very badly and will kill the chicks

She actually was a great mama! It was when they were old enough to be on their own was she done with them .. sorry, that’s what I meant... but it was still sad
