Just a few more days of freedom left...

Sorry, don't mean to be a trouble maker, BUT.....
Why do people have children and just want to send them away? I couldn't imagine being excited to do that.

I'm sorry

At least it was a good summer! And enjoy your last few days!

Once you finish school you'll never notice the end of August any more, because sadly work doesn't take summer breaks. Unless, I suppose, you become a teacher

Today is the first day for us. My 10 yearr old was more than ready for her first day of 5th grade.

She and I both love the anticipation of brand new pencils to be sharpened, brand new notebooks with pristine pages ready to be filled with all sorts of things. The choosing of the first day back to school outfit has been tedious and was finalized last night. She was ready for bed long before bedtime and finally went up at 8:30 and got settled in. She was up on her own at 5:30 am, showered, shampoo'd, perfumed and lip glossed, dressed and waiting for the clock to tick away the minutes.

We LOVE the first day of school!

My son started school August 7th !! Poor kid - but at least he gets out early, too, usually in mid May.

This is his senior year, so he is looking forward to May, LOL. I don't blame him - It was all I could do to make it through that last year of school, myself, when I was a senior.

Peace -
Meriah

In my case, when it's this close to school starting my DD gets to the point of counting several times a day. She loves school so much. I would rather see her there where she is anxious to be than out on summer break that she is wanting to be over!

We used to start around now and then the tourist industry decided they would lobby our state legislature to have school start after Labor Day so they could have the kids working for them. They got it changed to September 1st. Now they complain the kids don't get out until mid June and they don't have them for Memorial Day weekend.

Can't have it both ways.

Do you have kids?

Yes, We have 6! And I have never been excited to be away from them. And I can count on 1 maybe 1 1/2 hands how many times I've been away from them.

Wow! Hat is off to you! I used to be the same way (was a sahm for 10 yrs) and then got a mostly part time job outside of the home. I miss the kids, but I'm a better mom for it. (This doesn't apply to everyone, just speaking for myself personally.) I adore my kids and enjoy spending time with them, but I deal better when I get a little break sometimes and (shhhh! don't tell them I know this!) they like getting a break from me, too!

Most of mine enjoy school, but I don't enjoy sending them off to school. It makes me sad and I miss the days they're home when we can go do fun stuff together or go on family "field trips".

Sorry to hijack the thread, I'm all done. I just never understood that whole "can't wait for the kids to go" thing. Whether it be to school, the sitters, or old enough to move out.
