Just a friendly little reminder.

I think the kind of person who would even want to be a mod would be the same one that would want to be hall monitor, and you end up with the same issues with both kinds of people.

Being a member of the BYC staff provides a VERY unique perspective. If all the members could see the hundreds of reports we receive every week and the other hundreds of PMs and emails we get, they would more fully understand why we have the rules we have and why we moderate the way we do.

We don't mean (or want) to treat any of our members like children. Our staff has over 60 years of combined experience with moderating this community and we've learned quite a bit about how our members interact and what does and doesn't work.

A reminder: The BYC Staff don't and can't read all of the 7,000 posts per day. We act on things that are reported. If members see anything that isn't in harmony with our rules (e.g., you feel like you are being attacked) they should either report the issue or kindly discuss the issue with other members via private message.

At times we'll just need to ask that our members trust that we know what we're doing and it is because of our moderators, our policies, and the way we police them, is the reason why BYC has become the largest and fastest growing chicken community on the planet.

Brings up a good point: We actually never invite people that "want" to be moderators to join our staff. We look for our most level headed and helpful members that have proven time and time again that they love the community and invite them to join us. For most they don't even see it coming.

You remember Funky Winkerbean? Les used to be the hall monitor and had the automatic weapon mounted on the desk? I can just our Mods with a desk and a roo, "I have a rooster and I'm not afraid to use it!"
They do a good job.

I doubt its all fun and games infact I bet it gets plain frustrating to them at times. I believe the ones that do become mods do so for the love of the site. I definitely do not have the patience to be one. Modding seems to be many times a thankless job and the site could not run smooth without them.
