Just amputated a chicken leg

What breed is he? My roo looks a lot like that, only he has a walnut comb (I think).

I think he's a Buff Orpington but I'm not completely sure

Wow! You’re amazing! I never could have amputated the leg like that! You did the exact opposite of animal cruelty and you saved that little one’s life! I never in a million years would say you needed to banned! I would say you need some kind of award! I was awestruck about how matter-of-fact-ly you described the process! She is such a cutie and I’m so glad she got a second chance at life!

How has little Pixar been?

She's been doing great! I've moved her to the adult coop and she has no trouble at all pushing the others around and getting food. I'd guess she's somewhere in the middle of the pecking order but seems to still be climbing. My Bantam Cochin, Mr. Puffy Britches, has been trying to escort her around the yard. He even gets in the nesting boxes and calls her. She's still young and doesn't seem very interested in the boys yet but I'm secretly rooting for Puffy. She comes when I call her and follows me around the coop but she doesn't like to be picked up. She's gotten a lot bigger and I suspect she didn't have much to eat at her old home because she can get pretty food agressive. It's pretty funny to see a tiny one-legged pullet chasing the full grown chooks. I don't have any recent pictures but I'll take some later today. Here's an older picture of her snuggled up with Chai

Good job saving your little birds life.
Some people are clueless, others are just ignorant, they want to just go through life as a bliss ninny, pretending that meat just magically appears on those little pink squares overnight in the wally world shopping mart, without a clue to animal husbandry.
Then there are those with an attention span less than that of your chicken coupled with a reading comprehension that would rival the best parakeet you could produce, who then after the whole 30 seconds they spent scanning your post, are 'experts' to tell you what you did wrong, what you deserve etc etc.

You did what you thought was right in the situation, and even if it was not the right decision, the driving force and intention FOR that decision was in the right place. You wanted to save that little birds life and you DID !! That is commendable. Many people would have just let it suffer while they posted on Fakebook how horrible of a time 'THEY' were having, that dying chicken DARED to inconvenience them!!

I find it amazing how you can ask for help and NOBODY will step up to help, (there will be 20 of them there with their F cameras taping the event though), but not one ounce of help. When you are done though, oh THEN they all want to comment, well you should have this that and the next thing. Here's a nice warm mug of STFU you sorry NPC.

You have a special pet now and hopefully a special bond with the bird. If not, you at least have a very interesting back story to share!

If it does turn out to be a Male, ok, sick curiosity it'll be interesting to see how Randy the Rooster performs while balancing on one leg .
