Just bought 2 hens at a swap and one is sneezing clear mucus

I have no answers for you as far as your sick birds go. I do think you are doing the right thing by taking the birds back. I too am a big Mama to all things, both two legged and for legged creatures. I raise Silkies, as well as other breeds and love them one and all. Most of my birds I have gotten from Swap Flocks. It was through one of the Flock Swaps that I met the lady whom I primarily get my chicks from now. I love going to the Flock Swaps because of the nice people I meet and it is the one place I can talk birds, without driving my husband insane

. I have a couple of suggestions from where you can buy birds from. The first one is you can buy them from catalog online, like Ideal Poultry or several other hatcherys. I have never bought my birds this way, but would after i checked their customer reviews. Then there is eBay or the buying forums on this site. Again you can check customer reviews. Again I have never bought my birds this way but I would not hesitate to do so, after checking the feedback. Then there is my favorite way to get birds and that is to hatch them. I buy my eggs then incubate them. It really is a lot of fun for me. Hatch day is a favorite day in our house. My incubator only holds seven eggs, so I don't have a trillion chicks running around.
Lastly let me say my thoughts are with you. Know that you are doing the right thing. After you come home tomorrow, go out to your coop find your favorite bird and hold it tight. This is the reason you have to do what you have to do. To make sure that little bird in your arms stays well.Try not to beat yourself up with the "what ifs". Our birds are suppose to bring love comfort and nourishment.
We are all here for you. Please feel free to pm me if you have more questions regarding buying birds or anything else i can help with. This is a great site. Here you can find the answers to almost anything. You can also also find lots of people ready to listen.
Again good luck, all will be well. Please let us know how it goes.
Thank you so much ...That is just what we did last night...we went out to our coop, I watched Peanut walk around in her new sundress saddle and make all her sounds as if she is telling me a story. Love that girl so much! I came back inside, felt sorry for these birds that they will never experience out there but knew I was doing this for Peanut and for the others. This is extremly hard but would be a horrible if all my birds got sick and died. I couldn't bare it! I do know of a local breeder if and when I want more girls. Right now I just have 8 to my rooster 4 that are only 4months old ..he is over working my girls so he goes on vacation in a pen off and on. This was the whole point of getting more females but now I am so afraid. I am sure the women I befriended the breeder has healthy birds, she has been talking to me and helping me use my head in this situation rather then my heart that so often takes control. And yes this site is great I have met so many new friends, like Sally that walked me threw some of my hatches ...I loved hatching too but we got to many roos and that was heart breaking too to get rid of them. I too have Silkies and Frizzles

This is Peanut! ....in this picture she was preening my hair it was so funny

Kelly thank goodness you kept them separate, disinfect everything they came in contact with and like Dawg said you can carry it on clothes, hair, shoes be carefully until there gone. I would never even set foot at a swap because of the germs, I'm to paranoid I might bring something home. Peanut is adorable. :) half Silkie?

We dropped the hens off to the owner this morning.

We were careful and I am throwing away all the dishes I used, we had the new hens in an indoor pen that my husband made so as far as shoes we never walked into a place they had been. Washed our clothes, took the pen out of the house to spray it down with bleach! ...

I caught her symptoms the min. we had them home,I was holding her and noticed a few bubbles in her eye, then the drippy nose, and I kept thinking geesh these chickens stink, they are not like ours, I just thought it was their poop but it was her beak...That one dose of meds did seem to help her though so I hope that women continues treatment. It did feel awful for them because I hope they get good care where ever they are.

But this is strange, I approached the women I bought them from with compassion, I said I feel terrible, we really wanted them but we cannot risk our flock...here is what I medicated her with ( I brought the box ) she barely looked at it and said oh ya I have that at home....I thought you have this at home? Who would even know about it unless you have a sick bird? Maybe I am reading into it to deeply but I thought it was odd. ANYWAYS Ugg as sad as it is, I feel like I did the right thing for my chickens. I never got the womens full name..she wrote down on a paper Amy Chicken...? Does someone really have the last name Chicken?

I have learned a lesson and thankfully it wasn't at the expense of many lives

I couldn't help but giggle when you said Amy Chicken, it does sound made up. Sadly it sounds like she knows her chickens are Infected with Coryza and is selling them anyway. So glad you caught it early and saved your flock.
