Just call me MotherGoose :D!! Day 1 Photos

Come on and hatch already, your making us all crazy

Today is day 32. Two of the goslings pipped into the air cell last night. I could clearly see their beaks pushed right to the shell when candled this morning. At lunch time their peeps were not as strong as the peeps from this morning.

How much air is in an air cell? How long can a chick/goose/duck last without needing air from outside of the shell?

I know I am the one always saying sit on your hands when it comes to chicken eggs. I remember the baby gosling that died in the shell like shrink wrap tied around it last weekend. I want to at least give these a chance. All of these eggs were incubated together in the same incubator with the exact same conditions.

Should I continue to wait? I am not experienced with goose eggs. This will be only the second hatch. I don't know when it is right to intervene with goose eggs.

At 4 pm if the goslings are still peeping I am going to pip the outer shell so at least I know they can breath.

Am I wrong? Is day 32 too early to pip the shell?

Comments? Anyone?

I lost one baby last week by waiting too long. I don't want the same to happen this week.

I have no experience with goose eggs either, but I think I would pip the eggs too. I don't see how it could hurt and might save their life. I am terrible at waiting though, so take it for what it is worth!

MissP, I'd crack at least a pin hole for air...inexperienced here but everything points to at least 2 days overdue and weak peeps to me would mean HELP...(sorry, I know its nerve racking...) And, can the little ones already hatched be heard by the unhatched ones? I'd think hearing the others would help but definately, like you, couldn't sit by and let them decline without rescue:rolleyes:
OH Com'on lil cheepers...we're all rootin' for ya!!!

My previously hatched goslings are 9 days old. I have them in a downstairs brooder near my fireplace in a bright sunny window. My incubators are upstairs in a quiet controlled room. I am going to pip the eggs. I know for sure one has had its beak at the shell level since early last night.

It can't have not pipped the air cell and have its beak that far up can it?

If the air cell is good for about 20 hours then it is approaching 20 hours now.

Hatching can take up to 2.5 days. But, you seem to have a gut feeling that something is not quite right. Very small mistakes in humidity and temperature can cause perfectly strong embryos to not hatch and die before escaping.

By this point, I'd surely take some tweezers and at least open the shell to make things easier for them.
